Under the direction of the Dean and Department Head, the program coordinator's primary purpose is the planning and operational aspects of the program and to insure the viability, currency and integrity of the curriculum. This position is a teaching role that will typically carry a full teaching load in addition to coordinator responsibilities.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties

  • Carry a full teaching load in addition to responsibilities for program coordination.

  • Teach, advise, and mentor students with a focus on student learning and success.

  • Formulate and/or recommend necessary curriculum changes, be knowledgeable of and implement changes made at the state level through CIP or other mandate.

  • Oversee, perform, and certify an annual equipment inventory.

  • Originate or approve all material and supply requests for the program to business office specifications.

  • Approve and submit all equipment requests for the program to business office specifications. Maintain and keep updated equipment viable to the program.

  • Interview and recommend for hire part-time instructors required in the program. Ensure part-time instructors are kept current of all departmental and college policies.

  • Evaluate all part-time faculty used in the program as per college policy.

  • Serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate for the program.

  • Ensure that the program has a viable advisory committee and meet with the committee on a regular basis as dictated by the program needs and college policy.

  • Oversee program advertisement and recruitment not typically handled by student services, which could include school visits and leading tour groups.

  • Prepare and submit the yearly instructional schedule including the assignment of instructors for specific classes.

  • Maintain and update current texts, videos, etc. to meet program and industry needs.

  • Develop and oversee the development of course documents for the program to college specifications. All courses must be reviewed and/or updated prior to teaching them in any given semester.

  • Formulate short and long-range goals for the continuing improvement or growth of the program. Each goal should have an attainment strategy.

  • Formulate periodic assessment (at least once per year) of the program to insure the program is meeting the needs of the college, being kept current and viable, and is serving the needs of the community.

  • Conduct and/or assist in periodic safety inspections within the program's facilities to identify and correct potential hazards. Also submit any necessary requests for repairs or maintenance.

  • Prepare a recommended budget for the program including any required travel, materials and supplies, equipment, part-time instruction, and repairs.

  • Responsible for lab computers: this includes managing proprietary software licensing and installation, purchasing, updates, repairs, and troubleshooting network issues.

  • Work with the Director of Financial Aid in securing a work-study student, if needed, and be responsible for supervision of the student. Work with Coordinator of Disability Access to ensure the needs of disability students are met.

Hiring Range ($4,716 - $5,684 monthly) 9-month contract

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (e.g.,

Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Industrial

Arts)

or

An Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related

field (e.g., Computer Integrated Machining Technology) along with

verifiable work experience in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience preferred.
