Job Overview:Plans, organizes, supports, and controls all service line activities involved in the effective, efficient, and economical utilization of material resources of the delegated service line, ensuring patient service is continuous and high quality. Supports the Service Line Manager for orientation, training, and development of service line personnel. Relates effectively with perioperative team members for continuity of care; maintains satisfactory relations with other departments and nursing units. Promotes increased case volume through provision of a highly effective service line intra-operative program, efficiency, and development of positive relations of Surgeons within responsible area.Qualifications:EducationMust be a Certified Surgical Technician/graduate from an accredited programBasic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification requiredHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredMembership and participation in professional nursing and community organizations preferredFive years OR experience requiredEssential Functions:Collaborates with Service Line Manager to ensure all instruments/trays and equipment for all cases are available.Serves as liaison to surgeons in service line specialtyReviews schedule one day in advance to ensure appropriate OR suite.Development and upkeep of preference cardsMaintains control of specialty equipment and suppliesIdentifies and coordinates the needs of service line physicians through scheduled meetings in collaboration with the Service Line Manager.Patient Care ManagementMaintains clinical expertise as demonstrated by: Providing care that is safe, effective and consistent of RWJUH standardsApplying knowledge of growth and development over the life spanApplying the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients service on Service LineSharing specialty based knowledge and skills both formally and informallyIncorporating current research findings into clinical practiceProvides open lines of communication for reporting medical errors and near misses using RWJUH organizational tools and resourcesHuman Resources/Financial ManagementAssists the Unit Educator and Service Line Manager in facilitating orientation process for new employees demonstrated by:Assists in maintaining a positive preceptor/orientee relationshipWorking with the preceptor/orientee to solve any problemsSupports the Service Line Manager in controlling service line expenditures within agreed budgetsDemonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills acting as a professional leadership role modelResearch, Education and Performance Improvement:Identifies and coordinates with Service Line Manager on educational needs of service line team members through scheduled in-servicesAttends regular meetings with Service Line Manager and service line team membersParticipates in hospital safety programsSupports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.At RWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees physical, emotional, social, and financial health.*
