Job Description

The Barrett Honors College Internship & Community Outreach Coordinator, Sr. plays an essential role in providing high-achieving students with direction, resources, and opportunities to enhance their academic and career goals. The Coordinator Sr. is a strong communicator and self-starter with the ability to sustain and move work forward with minimal direction. This position reports to the Director of Academic Partnerships and Online Programs, and collaborates with faculty, staff, students and community partners to identify, promote and coordinate internship and other professional development opportunities that enrich the honors experience at ASU.

In this position, they will: collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; plan, present and deliver information sessions and workshops; oversee enrollment in academic credit for internships in accordance with university and college procedures; monitor and track internships; promote opportunities through website, social media, and newsletter content; serve as a liaison to ASU Career Services.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). Infrequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (5%). Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions; Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evidence of effective public speaking skills in large and small group settings and creating informative presentations.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment where deadlines and multitasking are essential.
  • Aptitude with learning how to use new systems and examples of successful administrative skills with managing email, online forms, digital files such as Adobe Sign, and other related digital programs and platforms.
  • Evidence of diplomatic, clear, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of a master's degree preferred; or enrollment in or plans to pursue a master's degree.
  • Experience working in or with an institution of higher education.

Essential Duties

  • Guides and connects honors students on all Barrett campuses to internship and professional development resources and opportunities both specific to Barrett and available at ASU.
  • Offers guidance to students on refining academic and career goals in collaboration with the resources offered by ASU Career Services.
  • Maintains working relationships with internship coordinators through the ASU internship network, and strengthens existing partnerships in the community (i.e. Mayo Clinic, Teach for America, Peace Corps).
  • Partners with Barrett faculty and staff (such as Barrett Student Services Team, Office of National Scholarships and Advisement, Barrett Alumni Coordinator) to host workshops and events.
  • Coordinates and leads employer information sessions for Barrett students.
  • Informs Barrett student leaders and student organizations of opportunities through presenting at events such as student retreats and student organization meetings.
  • Manages the honors internship course enrollment and evaluation process in accordance with university and college procedures and in collaboration with students, employers, and course instructors.
  • Collects data on internship placements and career outcomes of Barrett students in collaboration with ASU Career Services.
  • Maintains and promotes internship and professional development opportunities on the Barrett website, engages students through social media, and manages the Internship and Research Roundup newsletter.
  • Serves on college committees and represents Barrett in the larger local and national communities.
  • Facilitates review of internship and related Barrett scholarships.
  • Assists with related college programing and events including but not limited to: Barrett Convocation, Family Weekend, Homecoming, Alumni and Development events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Days and schedule:

Monday- Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM in-person work based at the Tempe campus, with occasional after-hours work for workshops, events, and signature college programs
