Coordinator, Scholar Support Programs - Center for Advising & Academic Services

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for Coordinator, Scholar Support Programs in the Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services. The Coordinator will promote I-Promise Scholar success and retention by providing individualized advising and coaching for an assigned caseload; administering and developing programming and events by cultivating partnerships with various campus and off-campus organizations; and working collaboratively to support other SSP functions and goals.
The Scholar Support Programs (SSP) team provides support and resources to undergraduate students in three unique scholarship programs: Illinois Promise, Stamps, and Hope Chicago. This position will work to ensure that programmatic goals are met, is a key contributor in providing support specifically to Illinois Promise Scholars and will develop and implement programs and services that support Scholars' success.
Primary responsibilities include providing individualized coaching and advising for a caseload of I-Promise Scholars; developing and delivering content for all communication vehicles (bi-weekly bulletins, semester newsletters, podcasts, social media, website management, and special announcements) for Illinois Promise, Stamps, and Hope Chicago, and assisting with events for Illinois Promise.
Duties & Responsibilities -
Coaching/Advising
Provide monitoring, outreach, and individual advising and coaching to an assigned roster of I-Promise Scholarship recipients
Create a welcoming environment that is inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds
Recognize the unique experiences of undergraduates from low-income households and engage in holistic and purposeful discussion with students regarding academic, professional, and personal development including basic needs (food, housing, healthcare, childcare, etc.)
Assist students in understanding how their financial award impacts academic, professional, and personal planning
Assist students in navigating and utilizing relevant campus and community resources; provide referrals and directly connecting students to such resources
Conduct targeted outreach during designated times throughout the academic year (i.e. midterms, course registration, end of term grades) including focused engagement with students on academic warning or drop status
Keep thorough records of all student contacts, meeting unit's stated key performance measurements (KPMs)
Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families as appropriate (within the parameters of FERPA)
Communication Development and Delivery
Developing and managing newsletter content and curation (tri-annual distribution to various audiences including students, alumni, donors, and campus stakeholders) for all three scholarship groups
Gathering and organizing relevant campus event data, resources, and opportunities, and distributing this information via bi-weekly bulletins for all three scholarship groups (this work may be in partnership with a departmental intern)
Podcast recording and editing
Managing and updating website content
Organizing and maintaining video/audio image permissions files
Curating image databases and securing photo use permissions
Managing and updating social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Other duties as assigned
Event and Programming Assistance
Supporting SSP Director and Assistant/Associate Directors in event and program logistics and coordination
Participate in and support additional unit programs and initiatives such as social events, orientations, award/recognition banquets, advancement/donor relations activities, and other academic, service, and professional development programs

Conduct product inventories and undertake organizational tasks
Manage the design and ordering of branded materials (apparel, banners, tablecloths, etc.) for all three scholarship groups
Required Qualifications -
Bachelor's degree in a discipline appropriate for administering support services and programming for undergraduate students
At least 1 year of professional experience in student-centered positions
Experience and commitment to supporting undergraduate students from underrepresented populations including students from low-income backgrounds and first-generation college students
Experience in marketing and/or communications (i.e. websites, social media, infographics, program branding, podcasting, newsletters, etc.)
Demonstrated experience and skill in program and event coordination
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tasks and priorities
Proficiency with commonly employed software, databases, and web applications
Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for programs and initiatives that take place outside of typical working hours
Attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications -
Master's degree in higher education, or related field
Knowledge and experience supporting the academic success of undergraduates at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign or other large public universities
Experience working directly with students receiving the Illinois Promise scholarship or University of Illinois programs serving similar constituents (low-income, first-generation college students)
Experience using Banner, DARS, or similar student record systems
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Minimum salary for this position is $50k. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined after a thorough assessment of these factors.
