Job Overview:

Under the supervision of a Department Manager, the Coordinator provides oversight of all departments' risk management and regulatory standards compliance.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor s degree required in a related area such as; healthcare administration, health science, legal studies, or a clinical profession

  • Minimum of two years of experience in acute care risk management required

  • Working knowledge of DNV, CMS, NJDOH, and Privacy regulations

  • Excellent writing and communications skills

  • Ability to work with excel, Microsoft word, electronic programs, and data analysis

Preferred:

  • Master s degree preferred in Health or Hospital Law or Healthcare administration

  • Knowledge of Verge preferred

Scheduling Requirements

  • Day, 8:00am 4:00pm

  • 5 days a week

  • Full Time 40.00 hrs.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the hospital s risk management activities in collaboration with RWJBH corporate and JCMC leadership, which includes coordinating insurance coverage, managing claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs, and complying with Federal standards such as DNV ISO and Conditions of Participation, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility.

  • Serves as a resource to Medical Staff, Clinical Staff and JCMC employees to reduce risks. Conducts investigations to support adverse event management.

  • Participate, as directed, in Root Cause Analysis, Process Mapping and related report preparation

  • Implements the electronic database for policies via Policy Manager. Functions as a resource for Verge data reports. Serves as the organization s Privacy Officer interacting with HIM and provides staff education as needed

  • Manages the product re-call process

  • Establishes monitors and enhances communication channels, which enable open communication

  • Consults with and advises senior management of any problems related to the operations of areas of responsibility

  • Provides and maintains effective communication with the community, medical staff, corporate system, hospital and departmental management and staff

  • Reviews hospital incident reports, follows up as necessary and in collaboration with the clinical risk manager

  • Submits any and all hospital incident reports through Verge and, if necessary, submits incident reports as potentially compensable events ( PCE ) to Corporate Legal

  • Under direction of the Director of Clinical Risk Management, facilitates investigation of lrisks involving actual or potential injury to patients, visitors and employees

  • Ensures collection of all information necessary to prepare for the defense claim in collaboration of corporate services

  • As directed by the Director of Clinical Risk Management, completes timely reporting of claims and PCEs to the organization s administrative leadership and to the System General Counsel s office

  • Responsible for data management, claims management and the education components of the risk management program for Hospital staff

  • Maintain electronic claims monitor system (Verge Claims Module) on a timely basis

  • Works collaboratively with supply chain process and organization s leaders to evaluate and respond to recall notices.

  • Identifies risks to the hospital by reviewing past incidents and claims, hospital loss and liability reports, and local/national hospital-related incident or risk data/statistics.

  • Implements policies in collaboration with department leaders and corporate services that minimize risks

  • Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Risk Management: supports professional liability, general liability, cyber, auto, and property process:

  • Works collaboratively with corporate services for timely completion of insurance renewal applications

  • Responsible for timely trigger and notification of coverage claims with insurance companies to leadership and corporate services

  • Directs loss control/loss prevention activities in collaboration with corporate services to meet the needs of the Hospital

  • Conducts safety rounds regularly with hospital staff to proactively identify risks and contributes to actions to resolve findings

Leadership:

In collaboration with the Director of Risk Management, develops training programs and provides staff orientation programs and requested in services, in compliance with State, Federal and DNV regulations and Standards.

  • Works with corporate services and hospital leadership and departments to ensure the hospital has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality via consents, authorization forms, information notices, and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements

  • Provides initial privacy training and orientation to all employees, volunteers, medical and professional staff, and as requested to contractors, alliances, business associates, and other third parties

  • Establishes with leadership and corporate services, mechanisms to track access to protected heath information as required by law and provides reports on this activity as requested

  • Collaborates with HIM, IT and corporate services to establish and/or maintain a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, and investigating complaints concerning the organization s privacy policies and procedures

  • Collaborates with the System Privacy Officer to maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure ongoing organizational compliance

  • In collaboration with the system, administrator of the organization s electronic Policy & Procedure program on the Bridge, which includes technical support to staff and policy process needs. Maintains active profiles for writers/approver hierarchy

People Management:

  • Investigates or directs to the appropriate person(s) departmental and employee complaints regarding safety and occupational health hazards and implements appropriate remedial measures

  • As directed by the Director of Clinical Risk Management, may need to function as the hospital liaison with insurance brokers, investigators and appointed attorneys

  • As Directed by the Director of Clinical Risk Management, assists employees with responses to the organization s litigation requirements, such as schedules interviews with claims adjusters, provides guidance with responses to interrogatories, and accompanies employees to depositions and court as requested from corporate services

  • As Directed by the Director of Clinical Risk Management, in litigation claims, assists legal counsel in accessing facility records and personnel

  • Interacts with hospital and corporate legal counsel, insurance carriers and patients/families to support processes for resolution

  • Takes the lead on projects that support organizational objectives and initiatives for risk prevention. Recommends changes to prevent recurrence as appropriate

  • Serves on related hospital and corporate committees such as:

  • Environment of Care

  • Workplace Violence

  • Corporate Policy & Procedures Committee
