Reports to Director Quality Improvement Organizational Excellence. Works with performance improvement, medical staff office, medical staff, hospital administration and other key stakeholders as required. Facilitates and supports efforts to integrate value-added clinical outcome information into the approved medical staff peer review structure. Works to improve processes and performance to accomplish effective and efficient deliverables. Conducts clinical reviews using critical thinking skills, approved criteria and clinical knowledge to identify opportunities for excellence in the quality and safety of patient care. Will model collaboration utilizing effective teamwork, communication and performance improvement skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative and effective working relationships with medical staff leaders to instill confidence in the unbiased and consistent adherence to the medical staff's peer review process.

  • Support medical staff leadership to critically review and revise process and procedure, as appropriate, to meet the intent of peer review of the medical staff.

  • Work with Medical Staff and associates in other hospital areas (Performance Improvement Risk Management Medical Records, etc.) to identify appropriate measures for clinical quality monitoring.

  • Participate in the development of reporting tools to communicate clinical quality data to Medical Staff and hospital management.

  • Assist in the clinical review and reporting of identified cases as appropriate.

  • Work with the other members of the Medical Staff Office to facilitate, coordinate, and keep records for regular Medical Staff department peer review meetings.

  • Track and report on Medical Staff peer review activities to appropriate committees as appropriate.

  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job and as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.

  • Licensed as RN in the state of Michigan.

  • 5 years of clinical nursing experience in hospital setting.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  • 2 years as clinical reviewer, care coordinator, quality improvement nurse, or other equivalent experience strongly preferred.
