BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible and accountable for coordinating daily patient activities of assigned area.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY: None

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position interacts with the physicians, clinical and non-clinical staff, patients and families, and supervisor.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Supports the mission, vision and values of the hospital.

Responsible for working in a safe and protective manner at all times, keeping in mind that safety and environmental hazards are the responsibility of all employees for themselves, other staff members and patients.

May serve as main liaison between physician and his patient, families, vendors and other persons circulating through his office.

Maintains effective and professional communication with staff, physicians, patients and their families.

Maintains and controls physician's patient schedule.

Schedules all outpatient procedures and preparations with patients, as well as coordination of scheduling with the main hospital and the OR.

Confirms patient appointments prior to the day of visit.

Communicates in a professional and effective manner with patients, and coordinates instructions provided by physician.

Answer all patient telephone calls and takes accurate messages.

Collects all patient payments physician's professional services and delivers to the billing staff for processing.

Maintains accurate registration procedures for physician's patients at the office.

Assists and supports marketing efforts to promote physician's practice.

May need to coordinates with the office manager for all supply orders for physician's supply needs.

May assist in front office with reception duties, covering lunches and assisting with daily paperwork.

Performs additional duties as necessary.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge of third-party payors and insurance verification requirements required.

Knowledge of medical information systems required.

Evidence of good communication skills and ability to interact with hospital management and employees in a cooperative manner.

Ability to prepare letters to patients, education materials and assessments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum High School Diploma required.

Five to seven (5-7) years' experience in a medical office; two to three (2-3) in a supervisory role required.

Strong computer knowledge preferred.
