JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence is seeking a Student Coordinator of Entrepreneurship Programs to support the day-to-day operations and desired growth of the Sheetz Fellows and other Sheetz Center programming. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Sheetz Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence, the successful candidate will:

  • Engage with members of the Penn State Altoona and local community through programming that better prepares students for their entrepreneurial careers.

  • Collaborate with and support the Executive Director of The Sheetz Center and facilitating classes, workshops, and programs for Sheetz Fellows, entrepreneurship students, faculty and staff.

  • Initiate, plan, and oversee entrepreneurship and Sheetz Fellows events.

  • Provide student services such as advising, building resumes, and resume critiques.

  • Participate in strategic planning for future growth of the Entrepreneurship and Sheetz Fellows.

  • Proactively research and identify for on- and off-campus entrepreneurial partnerships.

  • Work with marketing and communications to develop materials that promote entrepreneurship and Sheetz Fellows both past and present.

  • Initiate, plan, and oversee social media outlets for the Sheetz Center and the Sheetz Fellows including writing and maintaining the e-newsletter.

  • Supervises, trains and coordinates the work of work study students.

The position typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ideally, candidates would have previous experience with student affairs, student scholarship programs, community engagement and/or entrepreneurship programming.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams. Experience working with students. Experience developing and leading workshops or courses. Awareness of and ability to work with diverse student populations. Demonstrated customer service skills as they relate to working with students. Marketing/social media knowledge preferred. This position will need to work some evenings and weekends in support of Sheetz Center events and activities.

Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Fitness and Wellbeing, the Coordinator for Fitness and Wellbeing will serve on a team responsible for the daily operation and management of Group Exercise, Personal Training, Instructional Classes, and Wellbeing programming. Campus Recreation is a department within the division of Student Affairs that provides recreation and wellbeing programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Campus Recreation is comprised of 53 full-time staff and more than 900 student staff members. Specific responsibilities include assisting in the development, management and daily oversight of a comprehensive group exercise and instructional fitness schedule, as well as fitness and wellbeing-related programs, education and special events. This includes hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student group exercise and instructional class instructors, while maintaining a high level of customer service. This position requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus three years of collegiate recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree is preferred. Knowledge of collegiate fitness and wellbeing programs including group exercise, personal training, small group training, instructional classes and wellbeing programming, as demonstrated through past experience in a collegiate setting. Knowledge of basic safety and risk management practices and industry standards as they relate to fitness and wellbeing program management, and national certification from ACE, AFAA, and/or ACSM is required. Candidates must have the ability to teach multiple group exercise formats and be able to train novice instructors how to lead group exercise classes. Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification is required. Work schedule will include some evening and weekend hours. This position requires independent work on assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Assistant Director as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organization and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental and Student Affairs initiatives and efforts. Required to take initiative and have flexibility to adapt to shifting workload demands. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential.
