Lycoming College is hiring a Coordinator of Student Engagement to join the student life team.

Lycoming College, one of the nation's oldest residential liberal arts and sciences colleges, invites candidates to apply for the Coordinator of Student Engagement position.

With a first-rate undergraduate education and an increased commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus community that supports all faculty, staff, and students, we are seeking candidates who can support and contribute to our mission and 2021 strategic plan. This position will collaborate with student organizations and the Director of Student Engagement in coordinating, creating, and enhancing student programs and activities that foster student engagement for all students. This will include late night and weekend programming, assisting in providing student organization advising and event planning assistance. Fulfilling this role requires the coordinator to be exceptionally attuned to the needs and experiences of Lycoming's diverse community and be adept at supporting and enhancing the campus experience with all with whom they work.

This is a one year with possibility of renewal, full-time position that is benefits eligible. The chosen candidate must be available to work a variety of hours including evenings, weekends, and must have a valid US driver's license.

What will I do in this role?

  • Support Student Life programming initiatives that serve and respects all students, faculty and staff; co-advises, trains and assists in leadership development that respects unique identities and lived experiences of all students, promotes the advancement of student organizations and programming including but not limited to student clubs, organizations, committees, student related special events, and award programs.

  • Oversee evening and weekend programming sponsored by the department and by student clubs and organizations that appeal to students and fosters a sense of belonging.

  • Assist in the promotion and dissemination of information about programs, activities and events.

  • Assist students with logistics for campus programs and activities, including planning for catering, facility use, public safety, and special equipment; event set up and clean up; parking arrangements; technical requirements; staffing, and other services. Attends events and provides on-site assistance.

  • Assist students in coordinating student travel including reservations, driving, and preparing trip itineraries.

  • Works collaboratively with other Student Life departments to promote student engagement and support for clubs and organizations that is inclusive and creates a sense of belonging.

  • Works in collaboration with the office of Community Service to execute monthly Service Saturday programming.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of major college events including but not limited to: 1st Weekend & Welcome Week, Homecoming, Candlelight Service, Baccalaureate, Commencement, etc.

  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement as requested with FSL programming.

What are we looking for?

Education Requirements: Bachelor's Degree Required. Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or Equivalent Preferred.

Experience and Qualifications: The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all campus community members and the general public is essential. The position requires knowledge of basic student leadership development theories. Strong organizational and time management skills are needed along with a keen ability to give attention to detail and accuracy. Must be able to work independently on some assignments and projects. Knowledge of Microsoft applications is needed such as: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft PowerPoint, with the desire and ability to learn new software applications.

Abilities Required: A variety of characteristics and skills are essential for the successful performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. These include but are not limited to:

  • Commitment to fostering an environment of inclusivity and belonging.

  • An ability to work with all students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members with the utmost respect to who they are as individuals (in their identities and lived experiences)

  • Effective computer skills through knowledge of, and experience with, all Microsoft Office Suite programs; experience using email and internet; Previous knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite applications and web editing is helpful but not required, however, the desire and ability to learn new software applications is required

  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team on assignments, duties, and projects

  • Effective organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to give attention to detail and accuracy in all work

  • Ability to produce a high quality and quantity of work

  • Effective and professional interpersonal skills (listening, verbal/non-verbal and written communication skills) in working with all students, faculty and staff.

  • Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills that are fair and equitable.

  • Skillfully manages individual, group and organizational interactions
