Wilson College is currently seeking a dynamic and energetic individual for the role of Coordinator of Student Engagement & International Student Services. The coordinator will be responsible for organizing various student activities and programs while promoting a culture of student engagement to meet the needs of a diverse student body. In addition, the coordinator will act as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and will work with the enrollment management team to ensure compliance with relevant laws and reporting through SEVIS and other pertinent agencies. They will also be in charge of orientation and special programming for international students, as well as promoting and facilitating study abroad opportunities for domestic students and faculty. The coordinator will assess future development needs to ensure the successful growth and management of the program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Programming:

  • Create, implement, and assess co-curricular student activities and programs for a diverse student body.

  • Ensure a vibrant slate of social, cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities are offered for all students to engage with the campus and the community.

  • Collaborate with other offices and organizations on campus to promote student engagement across a wide variety of activities on campus.

  • Coordinates travel arrangements for student related travel in accordance with College policies and procedures;

  • Represents the College at recruitment events on campus and in the community;

  • Assume fiscal oversight for programs and all other administrative duties necessary for efficient running of student engagement activities.

  • Oversight of College Activities Board (CAB).

  • Participate in Administrator-On-Call rotation.

  • Other Duties As Assigned.

International Scholar Services (Approximately 25 students/year)

  • Serves as the Wilson College Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) responsible for registering, maintaining, advising, and certifying F-1 student records in SEVIS. In addition, serves as liaison to J-1 sponsoring organizations and liaison to campus staff & faculty and off-campus persons/organizations as appropriate. Provides training and oversight to SEVIS Designated School Officials (DSOs). Responsible for bi-annual SEVIS recertification and ensuring Wilson's compliance with SEVIS regulations.

  • Responsible for maintaining the budgetary requirements for the International Scholars program, including monitoring expenditures and planning for current and future needs of the department. Must analyze data to make strategic financial decisions for the successful development of the program.

  • Provides information sessions and recruits students for study abroad opportunities, including advice to students and faculty regarding the logistics of study abroad opportunities. Researches international programs to understand feasibility for student experience, and coordinates with current international program partners.

  • Plans, organizes, and executes orientation workshops for all international students. In addition, conducts information/orientation sessions on insurance and visas for incoming and outgoing students. Advises and provides case management to all international students on matters pertaining to visas and immigration status and cultural issues through electronic communication, drop-in advising, appointments, and workshops. Develops new programs and services focused on assisting international students in adapting to their new culture and collaborates with other departments and programs (e.g. Residence Life, JEDI, CAB etc.) to create a welcoming and inclusive environment on campus for international and visiting students. Manages student shuttle service to and from local airports and plans and chaperones bus trips periodically throughout the year.

  • Manages the Friendly Family (Host Family) program, each semester successfully recruiting adequate numbers of persons into the program and partnering international students with these community members.

  • Maintains Membership with NAFSA and attends professional development opportunities as available/approved to ensure continued, up-to-date immigration advising and support services.

  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate study abroad into academic planning and international internships.

  • Facilitates the faculty/staff/student International Student Advisory and Support Team to solicit new ideas, enhance programming ideas and engage the broader college community in the execution of departmental activities.

  • Chairs the Study Abroad Advisory Committee and arranges chaperones (including one student development professional for all trips).

  • Cultivates new programs and partnerships on and off campus.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, detail-oriented, flexible, and experience overseeing multiple priorities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong ability to effectively communicate, both orally, and in writing, with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. Working knowledge of a second language preferred.

  • Evidence of cross-cultural understanding and sensitivity and the ability to communicate and train others with that knowledge.

  • Aptitude for exercising judgement and maintaining confidentiality

  • Ability to comprehend complex U.S Code of Federal Regulations as it relates to U.S. immigration regulations and procedures, particularly in F and J visa areas.

  • Skill in facilitating and modeling a quality customer service orientation.

  • Experience working independently and collaboratively as a team member

  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and SharePoint preferred)

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise work study student(s), occasional interns and van drivers; manage schedules and timecards for college shuttle drivers and student workers.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Full-time, 12-month position

  • Variable hours dependent on the needs of the department

  • Some work during evenings and weekends will be required.

TRAVEL:

  • Travel throughout eastern U.S. for student bus trips or cultural events.

  • Attend NAFSA conferences for education and networking, or other business trips as necessary and approved.

  • Occasional international travel may be required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in international education, student development, or related field; or

  • Bachelor's degree with appropriate background and work experience.

  • Experience in international travel

  • Entry level student affairs person.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence, as mandated by federal regulations for F-1 Designated School Official

  • Ability to pass criminal background check

  • CVVS Training/ Homeland Security Training

  • Member of International Education Services (IES)

  • Valid US Driver's license and passport
