PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Work collaboratively with fine arts and district staff to support fine arts programming across the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree / Master's Degree

  • Fine Arts related Texas teacher certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Fine Arts programs

  • Knowledge of auditorium management, including working with and maintaining computerized light and sound systems

  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Three years of successful teaching experience in an area of assignment

  • Prefer technical theatre/auditorium management experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES:

General:

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.

  • Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

  • Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives.

Instructional:

  • Provide leadership and serve as a consultant in developing and ensuring district wide alignment and continuity of the Fine Arts program, ensuring high standards and achievement.

  • Provide leadership in designing, implementing, monitoring and/or evaluating Fine Arts programs and ensure programs are efficiently and effectively administered.

  • Assist teachers in designing quality learning experiences for all students.

  • Observe classroom instruction in collaboration with campus administration and provide feedback and assistance to Fine Arts teachers to facilitate instructional improvement and innovation.

  • Evaluate and recommend improvement in the purposes, design, materials, and implementation of the instructional and extra-curricular programs.

  • Provide technical assistance to the instructional staff concerning the teaching and learning process through conferencing and staff development sessions.

  • Promote collaborative teaming by working with faculty and encouraging student-parent input to develop a more positive school climate.

  • Demonstrate skill in coaching staff and peers.

  • Secure consultants, specialists, materials, and other community resources to assist in meeting program goals.

Fine Arts Facilities and Operations:

  • Collaborate with campus, district leadership, and Fine Arts teachers to build and maintain a districtwide Fine Arts calendar.

  • Coordinate with the Fine Arts Director to develop and administer the district Fine Arts department budget based on documented program needs and ensure the operations are cost effective. Work with district leadership to seek local and national grants for Fine Arts programs.

  • Participate in the selection process of potential candidates in the area of specialization.

  • Provide technical guidance in the design of instructional and support spaces under development or renovation to ensure that program needs are met by these facilities.

  • Work on a flexible basis, be present, and essential as expected and needed, at most major Fine Arts events.

  • Daily responsibility for the technical operations of the Temple HS Auditorium, Meridith-Dunbar Auditorium and Sampson-Howard stage, including lighting, sound, and coordinating necessary maintenance and repairs.

  • Identify the needs for scheduled events and exercise leadership in planning facility and equipment preparation.

  • Facilitate training for TISD staff regarding maintenance and basic use of Fine Arts performance facilities.

  • Coordinate summer maintenance and renovations for the THS Auditorium, Meridith-Dunbar Auditorium, and Sampson-Howard stage pursuant to established policies and procedures.

  • Work with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties.

  • Other duties as requested by TISD.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Fine Arts staff, student tech staff

Equipment Used:

Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Computers, theatrical rigging, lifts, ladders, hoists, lighting, visual projection and sound equipment. Art kilns; music instruments and equipment.

Working Conditions:

Frequent districtwide and/or statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Work with frequent interruptions. Frequent standing stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions. Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds). Occasional driving of district vehicles including SUV's and Fine Arts 26' Box Truck. Exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and heights. Other physical risks associated with the operation of an auditorium.
