Duties

Position Definition: Coordinator of English Learners is responsible for promoting Language Acquisition Services by working collaboratively with the Executive Director of English Learners and World Languages, as well as other District administrators. Provide consistency in monitoring of program implementation including all district EL programs. Monitor and ensure that state laws and federal regulations are met and that English Learners are supported appropriately in their academic and language acquisition development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Explicitly model, through communication and actions, the core values and beliefs in the district's goals and mission;

  • Execute tasks connected to the Strategic Plan in the professional development department.

  • Provide facilitative leadership for exemplary instructional practices;

  • Provide support for Instructional Rounding and Instructional Review;

  • In collaboration with the Director of EL and World Languages execute department goals that are tied to the district strategic plan

  • Assist with maintaining and updating the District EL Program database and district student information management system and statewide information systems; assist with conducting quarterly reviews to ensure all data is accurate and consistent in all systems.

  • Support the EL programs and assists with the supervision and implementation of the curriculum to meet all students' needs.

  • Assist with planning and coordinating the administration of district and state assessments such as ACCESS, STAMP, iStation and IAR.

  • Assist in program evaluation for ELs as determined by local, state, and federal requirements.

  • Manage entry, progress, exit of EL students annually, and follow state and federal compliance procedures.

  • Support the implementation and evaluation of the AVID Excel program in the Middle schools.

  • Provide leadership and support to the Family School Liaison in the Title I buildings. Support Director of EL in the coordination and monitoring of FSL activities.

  • Provide leadership support to the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee. Coordinate activities for the D300 families and community.

  • Utilizes knowledge of current trends in EL instruction to plan and provide professional development.

  • Actively seeks new core and supplemental resources from a range of sources to enrich teachers' skills in implementing effective instruction for English Learners.

  • Plan, coordinate and execute annual ACCESS testing administration, and dissemination of the ACCESS score report to parents/guardians.

  • Provide in-service and direct training to program staff on the second language acquisition progress of ELL students and ACCESS/WIDA standards.

  • Assist with planning, supporting and facilitating EL Department/PLC meetings.

  • Prepare appropriate reports and documentation as requested by the Director, the evaluators and/or the Superintendent of Schools.

  • Disseminate information about effective second language practices to District staff and community.

  • Keep abreast of current research based practices addressing the instructional practices the assessment and placement of ELs.

  • Provide guidance (as needed) to principals on best practices in teacher evaluation (utilizing the Danielson Framework) for the teaching area(s) that fall under this role;

  • Actively participate in District job-alike committees, in the District instructional leadership team meetings, in other meetings and committees as directed, and in one's own professional development for this role;

  • Attend or chair various meetings outside of the District; represent the District in collaborative partnerships, task forces, committees, businesses, and human service agencies.

  • Develop and oversee the District budget for this division and research grant opportunities;

  • Develop and oversee the District Individual Problem Solving process related to EL;

  • Attain personal proficiency in District-supported technology platforms, applications, and tools, including but not limited to the Learning Management System, ChromeOS, Student Information System, Lawson, Google Drive, assessment platform,, etc.;

  • Serves as a member of the Academic Team and Superintendent Cabinet as needed;

  • Participate on Collaborative Councils, as appropriate

  • Attends School Board meetings as requested;

  • Participate in evening and weekend events; and

  • Assumes additional duties as delegated by the Director of EL and World Languages, Chief Academic Officer and/or assigned by the Deputy Superintendent

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Valid Illinois Professional Education License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement through ISBE
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience and previous administrative experience.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of English Language acquisition, state standards, and national standards.

  • Extensive knowledge of biliteracy, biculturalism, and the Science of Reading

  • Extensive knowledge in language acquisition, small group instruction, guided reading, and evidenced-based practices for biliteracy.

  • Experience in the development and implementation of progress monitoring including data collection, analysis and reporting.

  • Knowledge of the Professional Learning Community process and foundational concepts.

  • Knowledge of modern pedagogical approaches including tiered and scaffolded instruction.

  • Understanding of continuous improvement processes

  • Knowledge of IL School Code and all applicable Federal and State education requirements

Salary/Benefits

Salary and Benefits:

  • 261 days
