Wilson College is currently accepting applications for a Coordinator of Clinical Education/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for a new hybrid Doctor of Occupational Therapy Program.

The Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCE)/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) holds an academic faculty appointment and has administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. They demonstrate competence in fieldwork education, teaching, and curriculum development. In addition, the CCE/AFWC's primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty. These activities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing, monitoring, and refining the occupation-centered fieldwork education components of the curriculum.

  • Facilitating quality learning experiences for students during fieldwork education.

  • Evaluating students' performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine students' ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.

  • Educating students, Fieldwork Educators (FWEs), and academic and clinical faculty about fieldwork education.

  • Selecting clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and current occupational therapy practice.

  • Developing and maximizing available resources for the fieldwork education program.

  • Providing documented records and assessment of the fieldwork education component (includes fieldwork sites, FWEs, etc.).

  • Actively engaging core faculty in the planning, implementation, and assessment processes associated with fieldwork education.

They serve as a liaison between the occupational therapy program and the clinical education site as part of his/her responsibilities. The CCE/AFWC, in cooperation with other academic faculty, establishes fieldwork education sites and facility standards, selects and evaluates fieldwork education sites, and facilitates ongoing development of and communication with fieldwork education sites and FWEs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Communication between the College, the OTD Program, and Fieldwork Education sites:

  • Acts as liaison between the College and its community partners regarding occupational therapy practice. Communicates curricular changes or other relevant information to community partners (i.e., fieldwork sites, fieldwork educators). Communicates changes in practice settings back to the program and the College.

  • Provides ongoing communication with fieldwork educators (FWEs) at each fieldwork education site to support compliance with current ACOTE Standards.

  • Communicates and oversees communication with FWEs, academic and clinical faculty, and the students to monitor progress and assess student performance. Provides guidance and support as required to problem solve and discuss pertinent issues with student(s) and FWEs.

  • Ensures all program policies, procedures, and practices under the responsibility of the CCE/AFWC provide for compliance with accreditation policies and procedures.

  • Provides direct input into curriculum design, review, and revision processes.

  • Participates in regional, state, and/or national fieldwork education forums, fieldwork education related activities, and programs designed to foster clinical education.

  • Administers a system for the academic program's fieldwork education records.

  • Assists the Program Director in the development of a program budget by providing input on items related to the fieldwork education program and overall program budget.

  • Manages fiscal allocations budgeted for fieldwork education.

  • Participates in preparing ACOTE accreditation documentation and outcome performance assessment of students in the occupational therapy program.

  • Collaborates with faculty to promote, coordinate, plan, and provide FWE development opportunities using effective instructional methodologies and technologies.

  • Mentors other academic faculty about their roles and responsibilities related to fieldwork education.

  • Fieldwork Education Program Planning, Implementation, and Assessment:

  • Develops, monitors, and refines the occupation-centered fieldwork components of the curriculum.

  • Provides oversight to the Fieldwork Education Policies and Procedures component of the Program Assessment Plan and ACOTE Self Study Report

  • Facilitates quality learning experiences for students during fieldwork education.

  • Evaluates students' performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.

  • Mentors and coaches students before, during, and after fieldwork, including taking probationary actions where needed.

  • Places, supervises, and communicates with students and clinical education sites during fieldwork experiences.

  • Collects, analyzes, and disseminates data acquired from the Student Evaluation of the Fieldwork Experience (SEFWE)

  • Fieldwork Education Site Development:

  • Establishes, develops, and maintains an adequate number of fieldwork education sites relative to quality, quantity, and diversity of learning experiences to meet the educational needs of students and the academic program, the philosophy and outcomes of the program, and evaluative criteria set by ACOTE.

  • Develops outcomes, policies, procedures, materials, and assessments related to the student fieldwork experience.

  • Mentors and coaches FWEs in designing intentional occupation-centered learning experiences grounded in theory and evidence to assess student leaning outcomes.

  • Provides ongoing evaluation and assessment of strengths and areas needing further development or action to fieldwork sites.

  • Fieldwork Educator Development:

  • Collaborates with FWEs to promote, coordinate, plan, and provide professional development opportunities using effective instructional methodologies and technologies.

  • Evaluates each fieldwork education site through student feedback, on-site visits, and ongoing communications and routinely shares this information with academic and clinical faculty.

  • Provides feedback to FWEs concerning their effectiveness in delivering clinical learning experiences based on student feedback and through direct observations.

  • Encourages participation in regional, state, and/or national fieldwork education forums, fieldwork education related activities, and programs designed to foster clinical education.

Teaching and Education Responsibilities: The Coordinator of Clinical Education/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator will primarily administratively manage the fieldwork program with sufficient workload release but will also teach courses as agreed upon with the Program Director that correspond with fieldwork education. This position is remote/hybrid and will require travel periodically to Pennsylvania throughout the year for fieldwork-related programming and College functions deemed necessary for the Occupational Therapy program's function.

Scholarship Responsibilities: Conducts and disseminates research/scholarship activities in accordance with ACOTE accreditation requirements and institutional policies and procedures.

Service Responsibilities: Participates in institutional and professional service opportunities in accordance with ACOTE accreditation and Pennsylvania licensure requirements, and institutional policies and procedures.

Professional Development Responsibilities: Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their area of teaching/clinical practice and abide by any licensure professional development standards established by the State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure (see https://www.dos.pa.gov/ProfessionalLicensing/BoardsCommissions/OccupationalTherapy/Pages/default.aspx ).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Administrative staff dedicated to operation of the fieldwork program functions in the department.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • Work during evenings and weekends may be required.

Travel: Periodic travel to the Philadelphia metro area and Chambersburg, PA area will be required for intensive lab experiences and College functions.

Qualifications:

  • Earned clinical doctorate in Occupational Therapy (i.e., OTD) or terminal doctorate (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D., D. Sc.) in a discipline appropriate for teaching responsibilities from a USDE-recognized accrediting agency.

  • A minimum of 2 years of full-time, documented experience in the field of Occupational Therapy that includes:

  • Clinical practice experience as an Occupational Therapist.

  • Professional experience as a fieldwork educator or documentation of training in the roles and responsibilities of fieldwork educators.

  • Eligibility for faculty rank at the Assistant Professor-level or above, demonstrating experience with the guidelines for faculty rank in the Faculty Bylaws.

  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in occupational therapy clinical education.

  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of occupational therapy.

  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as an Occupational Therapist in Pennsylvania.

  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

  • Experience consistent with Wilson College System for Faculty Rank.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, students, staff, and administration.

  • Ability to use the College's resources, notably technology, to promote effective teaching and learning.

  • Interest, initiative, and ability to work with the Program Director, department faculty, and administrators for program development, implementation, and outcomes assessment.

  • Ability to adhere to Wilson College policies and procedures and within FERPA and HIPAA regulations.

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
