The Coordinator of Campus Activities will provide leadership to Senator Entertainment and develop dynamic programming that supports the intellectual, personal, and social development of students. The Office of Student Life is responsible for providing a broad range of campus involvement opportunities to the Davis & Elkins College community including campus/student activities, intramural sports, leadership programming, fraternity and sorority life, and events for/with Elkins and Randolph County constituents. The Office's primary goal is to a) help students build a sense of belonging, b) contribute to the liveliness of the campus community, and c) augment the classroom experience in meaningful ways. With the goal of supporting the holistic growth and development of students, the Coordinator will serve as a front line professional in helping D&E students reach their full leadership potential through their involvement in co-curricular activities on campus.

DUTIES:

  • Serve as the lead advisor for Senator Entertainment (programming board). Coordinate campus activities that benefit all students (e.g. commuters, non-traditional, international, as well as traditional residential students).

  • Attend set up and tear down of all Senator Entertainment sponsored activities.

  • Manage the operations of the Myles Center for the Arts, Senator Commons, Madden Student Center (student union), and The Icehouse.

  • Coordinate and lead multicultural, diversity, and inclusive programming and educational campaigns that aid in building community and fostering appreciation for diversity and human dignity.

  • Coordinate campus prevention programs and activities (e.g. Wellness Wednesdays, sexual assault prevention, suicide prevention, etc.)

  • Work collaboratively to design and implement strategies and programs that better integrate the residential and academic realms of campus.

  • Research, write, and submit grants in support of the arts and cultural events on campus.

  • Prepare, analyze, and track budget for campus activities.

  • Coordinate a programming tracking system, event attendance and tracking, and space reservation requests.

  • Coordinate civic engagement efforts, which includes volunteerism, social justice, and service-learning initiatives.

  • Coordinate performance contracts, security requests, catering/set up requests, and other event management documentation for on-campus programming.

  • Assist in the coordination of large-scale programming, including New Student Orientation, First Friday events (with Elkins Main Street), Alumni/Family/Founder's Day Weekend, Halloween programming, Snowball, and Déjà vu Music Festival.

  • Supervise the production of a biweekly events calendar advertising the programming initiatives offered.

  • Participate in Event Coordination Team meetings.

  • Participate in Student Life Staff meetings.

  • Attend/oversee the Student Government Association meetings.

  • Participate in D&E community-related events, such as Admissions Open Houses, Commencement, Board of Trustees Committee Meetings, summer camps and conferences events, etc.

  • Summer Programming: Provides support for the residential needs of summer school and summer programming.

  • Plan, implement, oversee, and evaluate all intramural activities and recreational programs.

  • Coordinate programs and events that encourage spirit and fandom among the communities of Davis & Elkins College and the City of Elkins.

  • Serve on rotating on call schedule for the Office of Student Life after regular business hours (COVID procedures, mental health crises, etc.)

  • Coordinate the campus shuttle service for students at the beginning and end of academic semesters.

  • General office duties as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students.

PREREQUISITES/EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Student Affairs, Business, Counseling, Communication, Marketing, Hospitality, or related field. Masters preferred. Must pass a background check.

SKILLS: Knowledge of event planning and coordination. Leadership and management; managing and responding to crisis situations, guiding students and support staff, knowledge of student development; experience or knowledge of residential educational best practices; strong oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Typically requires sitting, standing, bending, keying, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Available to work regular evenings and weekends. May be required to travel from building to building frequently.
