COORDINATOR OF ART

DEFINITION

The Coordinator of Art shall be that employee member of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools to have a general responsibility and insure the proper and efficient operation of the Art Department.

PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum: A Master's Degree

  • Minimum: Undergraduate major or graduate school major in the field of Art

  • Minimum: Massachusetts State Certification as a Special Subject Teacher - Art

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

Certification as a Supervisor/Director

SALARY:

This is a stipend position. Stipend is to be added to the base salary according to the Everett Teachers Association contract, Unit A.

WORKING TIME

The Coordinator of Art will be required to work the contractual school year plus an additional fifteen days, at the discretion of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents. The length of the work day will be 7:30 A.M. to 3:00 p.m.

DUTIES

  • Cooperate with the Superintendent of Schools in recommending policies to the School Committee for implementation in the subject of Art.

  • Prepare teaching programs for the Art staff.

  • Coordinate and develop the Art Curriculum and Program for the school system.

  • Supervise, instruct and evaluate all teachers of art and aid them in improving their techniques and practices.

  • Confer with members of the Art Department, Principals and teachers for the cooperative planning and curriculum instruction for the improvement of the total program.

  • Confer with the classroom teachers and Principals on school visits to improve the teaching of Art.

  • Preview and evaluate all Art materials and supplies to be used in a comprehensive Art Program.

  • Make available to all teachers of Art, diversified media for drawing and painting, reference materials, and visual aides needed for use in the teaching of Art.

  • Hold monthly meetings and issue monthly bulletins to review the entire program of the past month and inform staff of any changes and corrections in procedures that may be necessary.

  • Review and update teaching material, techniques and organize when necessary, in-service workshops in the field of Art.

  • Be responsible for an inventory of Art supplies

  • In the interest of good public relations, encourage students to enter local, state and national Art contests; and provide Art decorations for school and community affairs.

  • Provide supervision of bulletin boards in order to attractively display the work of students in prominent places.

  • Have responsibility of providing substitute teachers for the Art Department

  • Prepare the budget for the Art Department and oversee the many expenditures of the Department.

  • Assist in the assigning of Art teachers to take advantage of their skills and training.

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
