Primary Purpose:

Provide curriculum leadership for advanced academic programs of the district to include Pre-AP, Honors, AP, Dual Credit, Dual Enrollment and AVID to ensure aligned and articulated instructional program implementation. Work to promote and increase performance in advanced academic courses and AVID to meet the needs of students and ensure compliance with state, federal, and local requirements.

Education / Certification:

1.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Master's degree in educational administration or content area is preferred.

2.Valid Texas teaching certificate.

3.Experience in AP, Dual Credit, and/ or Dual Enrollment preferred.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

1.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

2.Knowledge of advanced academic teaching and learning

3.Knowledge of Pre-AP, AP, Dual Credit, and Dual Enrollment programs

4.Knowledge of PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TSIA2 preparation and requirements

5.Knowledge of AVID programming and philosophy

6.Ability to interpret data and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

7.Ability to coordinate district functions

8.Ability to implement policy and procedures

Experience / Other Requirements:

1.Five years of professional educational experience to include two years of leadership experience is preferred.

2.Three years of teaching experience is required.

3.Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on

district business.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

1.Direct and manage Pre-AP/ Honors, AP, Dual Credit, Dual Enrollment, and AVID to meet students' needs.

2.Provide leadership and expertise in the overall instructional program of the District.

3.Serve on various advisory committees and planning teams.

4.Conduct meetings with District and campus instructional leaders for the purpose of feedback, input, and recommendation.

5.Collaborates with instructional coordinators and campus instructional coaches in their efforts to facilitate the implementation of advanced academic programs.

6.Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.

7.Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.

8.Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishment of program goals.

9.Ensure that district goals and objectives are developed using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques when appropriate.



  1. Work in collaboration with the Assessment Department to manage advanced academic testing for the district to include PSAT, TSIA2, SAT, and ACT.

  2. Analyze student assessment data and feedback from staff as a method to assess current and future staff development needs.

  3. Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives (academic excellence indicators).

  4. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.

  5. Prepare, maintain, and present all information, reports, and records as required.

  6. Collaborate with other personnel in a collegial, supportive manner.

  7. Represent the District with regard to the instructional program at city, regional, state, and national meetings, committees, and conferences.

  8. Pursues grant opportunities to support the instructional program including grant writing and/or administration as recommended by the District grant writer.


Staff Development



  1. Plan and present to campus and District staff professional development consistent with District initiatives and best practices.

  2. Plan for and provide effective staff development that is based on research and best practices, supports advanced academic and AVID curriculum, and incorporates the collaborative vision and mission of Comal ISD.

  3. Serves as a resource to campus administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community agencies.

  4. Seeks, evaluates and responds to feedback from teachers, administrators, peers, supervisors, and other professionals.


Other



  1. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

  2. Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.

  3. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.

  4. Provide for two-way communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.

  5. Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
