Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator for the TRiO SSS program is responsible for several critical aspects of grant implementation. This program targets students pursuing post-secondary degrees who are either the first in their family to attend college or low-income students. The position will have primary responsibility for meeting with potential student participants; explaining the program and requirements for participation; planning and providing training to students; problem solving and advising; and planning special events. The Program Coordinator assists in the hiring and supervising program tutors and staff instructors, and coordinates program workshops, career exploration events and university field trips.
As part of the interview evaluation process, candidates will be asked to present a ten-minute presentation to the interview committee (more information will follow).
Continued employment in the position is contingent upon continued funding through designated external sources. This is the 4th year of a 5-year grant.
The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of student development, college access, strategies for increasing college success for under-served populations including first generation, low income students, and students with disabilities
Capability to promote program/project to identify and recruit prospective participants
Experience advising, mentoring and/or academically coaching students
Act as student case manager utilizing intrusive advising while working with other college/university personnel to ensure the highest quality of student success
Develop collegial relationships with faculty, administrators, student services staff, learning center staff to better serve our targeted TRiO SSS participants
Program coordination experience related to facilitating workshops, organizing college visitation field trips, cultural enrichment activities and/or community service events
Collect data and maintain records of student progress
Monitor student retention, graduation, transfer and grade point average for advising and reporting purposes
Assist with project activities including developing and delivering workshops, orientation sessions, and college visits
Supervise tutors and support staff to include: prioritize and assign work; conduct performance evaluations; ensure tutors are trained and make hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations
Participate in the development, implementation, coordination, and supervision of program goals, objectives, and activities
Develop and present marketing materials used for student recruitment or college program to faculty, staff, students, businesses, agencies, local schools, and the community
Compile and review data and prepare related reports and correspondence
Respond to requests for information in an assigned program area from faculty, staff, students, businesses, agencies, local schools, and the community
Participate in developing and monitoring program budgets; monitor grants, write proposals and participate in grant development
Perform other duties of a similar nature or level
Job Requirements:
Bachelor degree and
One year of program experience counseling/advising or serving high school students transitioning to secondary education and/or post-secondary level education
Preferred:
Master's degree
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Background similar to that of project participants
