Position Purpose

The Coordinator, through a campus-based Family Resource Center (FRC), is directly responsible for the development, coordination, and oversight of mental/behavioral healthcare services, as well as child and family educational support systems. Coordinates with the medical professionals of the school-based health care centers. Responsible for integration and collaboration of District and community initiatives that directly impact the social and emotional wellbeing of students as well as student achievement. Works consistently to advance the District's values which include; student achievement, stakeholder collaboration, leadership development, respect for diversity, equity in access, perseverance & commitment, and continuous improvement. Services can include but are not limited to: mental health assessment and support services, medical and dental service, coordination of wrap around services, intensive case management, individual/family/group counseling, parent involvement, community awareness activities, and advocacy on behalf of students and parents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Program Management

  • Provides a clinical psychosocial assessment for families who agree to FRC services.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with county/city-wide professionals for efficient delivery of service.

  • Coordinates volunteer services as needed for the FRC.

  • Provides clinical supervision and training to undergraduate and graduate interns.

  • Facilitates regular meetings with co-located staff to address student and family needs, service provision, and connection with FWISD school staff.

  • Attends Mental Health Connection Meetings to partner with community stakeholders.

  • Promotes FRC services to students, parents and the surrounding community through: District events, community events, and stakeholder events.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of clinical psychosocial assessments, case files, scheduling of clients, and intakes; updates a database and FOCUS.

  • Provides daily/weekly information, training, education and consultation services with co-located counseling staff, District staff, outside agencies.

  • Responsible for training of FRC staff.

  • Provides crisis support to staff and families and communicates effectively with District personnel to ensure the safety and well-being of students at risk of harm to self or others.

  • Provides suicide risk assessments as needed in a crisis situation.

  • Maintains partnerships with departments within the district to better meet the social, emotional, physical, mental and academic needs of the student.

  • Maintains records of all student, parents, staff, and community contacts in a timely manner and assures confidentiality of records.

  • Acts as a liaison between the co-located counselors/therapist and the school.

Center Managerial Duties

  • Responsible for the budget including ordering of all supplies/materials for the Family Resource Center as well as the John Peter Smith Hospital Student Based Health Center (JPS SBHC).

  • Serves as building manager, including responsibility for meeting the needs of maintenance and custodial services for both the FRC and JPS SBHC.

  • Tracks allocation and disbursement of monies for clinical services for uninsured or underinsured families.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of comprehensive counseling programs, counseling procedures, and intervention skills (such as behavior management).

  • Knowledge of individual/group counseling skills and casework methods.

  • Knowledge of clinical treatment modalities and methods.

  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

  • Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data.

  • Skill in conducting team efforts to design, implement, measure, and refine strategies/services.

  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, staff, and community stakeholders.

  • Ability to effectively conference with teachers, parents, and students.

  • Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group and large group situations as needed.

  • Ability to exercise discretion regarding matters of sensitive or confidential nature.

  • Ability to use software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and do word processing.

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.

  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

Travel Requirements

  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.

  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.

  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).

  • Environment: Works in an office setting; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.

  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in human service field such as Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology.

  • Certification/License: Possess a valid Texas professional licensure in at least one of the following:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC);

  • Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT);

  • Licensed Social Worker (LMSW, LCSW);

  • Licensed Specialist in School of Psychology (LSSP);

  • Licensed Psychologist;

  • Other mental health professional license.

  • Experience:

  • 5 years' working with children, adolescents and families in a clinical setting, providing assessment, counseling, and case management services;

  • Experience in coordinating and supervising services provided to children and families in elementary and/or secondary school setting desirable.

  • Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
