The Office of Undergraduate Research seeks a full-time Program Coordinator to provide a key support role in the implementation of the Office of Undergraduate Research international and summer research programming, activities, events, and office support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will provide the program coordination for the Office of Undergraduate Research Oak Ridge National Laboratory student programs, international and summer research scholars programs in a dynamic environment. The program coordinator will play an important role in coordination of these activities including publicizing programs, working with ORNL and campus partners, recruiting students, planning events and activities, and tracking student participation. The position will also manage the office communication including social media accounts and data tracking. The coordinator will interact with a wide range of faculty, staff, and students at the campus level.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory Student Programs
The Office of Undergraduate Research supports student participation at Oak Ridge National Laboratory through publicizing and recruiting students to participate, and documenting the outcomes of those opportunities. This position will be responsible for participating in strategic planning to grow number of opportunities and increase coordination of opportunities.
Summer Research Scholars
The Office of Undergraduate Research supports student participation in summer research through the operation of a summer research scholars program. The coordinator will develop centralized professional development and networking activities for students conducting on-campus research during the summer months, including a welcome and orientation lunch, campus facility tours, responsible conduct of research training, biomedical safety training, informational seminars, and faculty guest lectures. The coordinator will work with campus housing to secure spaces for faculty research programs and visiting ORNL student researchers. The coordinator will also assess the program annually.
International Research Opportunities Program
The Office of Undergraduate Research supports student participation in international research programs as well as student attendance at international conference and events in order to present their research to external audiences. This position will work with students to provide necessary support associated with participation in these activities including coordination of student applications, supporting the judging and selection process for scholarships, entry of student participation into our online tracking system, gathering student participation information, coordinating travel planning (such as reserving hotel blocks, coordinating airfare purchasing, and working with students on reimbursement guidelines), and reimbursement for students selected to travel.
Communications and Social Media
The coordinator will maintain the Office of Undergraduate Research website, newsletter, social media accounts, and general campus communication.
Coordinate and maintain participation data on students and faculty in undergraduate research, including certification of participation for the co-curricular transcript. Develop process for validation of missing data requests. Coordinate data acquisition from ORNL, ORAU, Elements (faculty reporting software) and the Registrar's Office for research based course enrollments.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Minimum five years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree or two years of relevant experience with master's degree
Experience functioning in a dynamic environment required
Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to multi-task
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
Excellent grammar and proofreading skills
Possess a strong, proven record of teamwork
Capable of working individually and in a team environment
High level of personal initiative.

Experience and knowledge of working with undergraduate college students
