The Coordinator for Student Activities / Hall Director will work closely to develop student centered programs for all Walsh University students in order to promote active campus involvement and further enhance the student experience. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, student-centered environment within the residence halls and on campus. This includes the establishment of programs and services which foster respect, dignity, and collegiality among the student community, in unison with the ethics and spirit of the University's Mission Statement.

Through programs, activities and involvement opportunities, this position will guide the producing of socially conscious, critically minded and globally aware student leaders. Through active and engaged participation in on and off-campus events, activities and organizations, the Coordinator for Student Activities / Hall Director will provide fun, engaging and immersive programming that includes educational and cultural programs, lectures, trainings, socials and other interactive opportunities for all students.

This position provides support for our students as well as implements quality programming with a strong focus on evenings and weekends to engage students and connect them to our campus and local community. This position reports to the Chief Student Experience Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Student Activities and Campus Programming:

  • Development of campus activities, programs and student leadership initiatives that support the University's mission as a private, Catholic, liberal arts university.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a broad range of activities and programs designed to help meet the academic, personal, social, cultural and spiritual interests and needs of students.

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate one Student Activities graduate assistants who focus on commuter student support, evening/weekend programming and student mentoring.

  • Provides guidance and supervision to the University Programming Board

  • Prepares and administers annual Student Activities program budgets including recommendations and justifications for budget requests; authorizes other fund expenditures, receipts and disbursements according to University policies.

  • Maintains appropriate files and records for student clubs/organizations; officers and advisors' rosters; entertainment contacts; operations manual; etc.

  • Develops, directs, and evaluates student activities and program operations; compile and analyze data related to student participation and program evaluation; develops organization work processes which facilitates attaining established program goals and objectives.

  • Directs program activities with other Student Affairs functions, provides technical expertise and input concerning student activities, campus programming; and assists faculty advisors for clubs.

  • Develops and maintains the University master calendar for student activities and promotes campus programming through various marketing strategies.

  • Oversees disbursement of Student Activities and Student Leadership funds; authorizes expenditures; and oversees allocation process for student clubs/organizations.

  • Maintains appropriate files and records for student clubs/organizations; officers and advisors' rosters; entertainment contacts; operations manual; etc.

  • Coordinates major student events such as Welcome Weekend, Welcome Week, Homecoming, Student Appreciation Week and other theme week programs.

  • Serves as campus evening/weekend supervisor on a rotational basis with student activities team.

  • Serves as a liaison and standing member of the Orientation committee and provides direct support to orientation initiatives.

  • Establishes active partnerships with internal and external university constituencies including: Academic Affairs, Admissions, Alumni and Career Connections, Athletics, Campus Police, Integrated Marketing, Student Affairs and the Student Service Center.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Hall Director:

  • Overall responsibility for a residential area consisting of approximately 200 students in a traditional residence hall or apartment-style setting.

  • Supervise train, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants assigned to the building/area.

  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Coordinator of University Housing Placements, housing contracts, room changes, and placements.

  • Maintain residence hall records and inventories; issuance/replacement of building keys/swipes damage assessment and billing; and other appropriate records and data files.

  • Assist in campus wide programs that affect the student body.

  • Oversee development, implementation, and assessment of community programming.

  • Coordinate opening and closing of residence hall area during University recesses and supervise check-in and check-out responsibilities.

  • Responsible, under the guidance of the Chief Student Experience Officer and Chief Conduct Officer, for enforcing University policies and procedures. Will initiate discipline process as needed, serve as a judicial hearing officer, and serve as a member of the Student Life Judicial Board.

  • Maintain communications and interactions with residence hall students, staff, Chief Student Experience Officer, Vice-President for Student Affairs, Chief Conduct Officer, and other offices and staff.

  • Participate in on-call responsibilities, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution.

  • Assist in contacting/requesting emergency transportation of residential students to health care facilities, where applicable.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Chief Student Experience Officer and Vice-President for Student Affairs.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field required. Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in residence life, community living, or a related area within a university setting

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Catholic teachings, values, and traditions.

  • Strong communication, mediation, and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on empathy and active listening.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion and compassion.

  • Demonstrated excellence with interpersonal, written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of campus and community constituencies

  • Flexibility with work schedule as some evening and weekend programming will be required

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education or educational work setting.

  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
