Job Summary

The Coordinator for Student Activities and Campus Religious Life provides programmatic leadership and administrative assistance within both the Office of Student Life and the Office of the Chaplain. These dual roles are separate, yet work in tandem to offer holistic support for our students' social and spiritual well-being. This person directly reports to the Associate Chaplain for Student Ministries, with additional accountability to the Assistant Dean for Student Life. This is a grant-funded position. Your continuation in this position is contingent on continued funding for the position.

This position works on-site in Jackson, MS. Regular work hours are Monday-Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but will also require a flexible schedule to accommodate night and weekend events.

Job Duties

Student Activities:

  • Coordinate, plan and execute a comprehensive schedule of student programming and events

  • Provide leadership experiences and training for student-led organizations

  • Oversee the student organization registration process and work to ensure all student organizations are registered each academic year.

  • Serves as advisor to student organizations as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students

Campus Religious Life:

  • Assist the chaplain's office with coordinating, planning and promoting Campus Ministry events and programming.

  • Be available to students, cultivate relationships, and be present during on-campus events

  • Plan other activities with students based on student needs and interests

  • Promote and recruit for the McNair Fund for Christian Missions

  • Provide general administrative assistance to Chaplain's Office

  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Chapel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent mix of education and relevant personal experience

  • 1-2 years' experience as a resident advisor, coordinating events, or working in an administrative position in an office setting.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Social media and website management skills

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn new technologies

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Previous experience with budget tracking preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks.

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds without assistance.
