Job Summary:

The role of the Coordinator for IFCC is grounded in the collaborative implementation of a vibrant co-curricular and community cultural experience that reflects the mission and core values of Our Lady of the Lake University. Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), this position manages the Multicultural Activities and Recreation Center (MARC) building and oversees the International Folk Culture Center (IFCC). This position is funded by a long-term endowment grant program that focuses on international and intercultural programming for education and fitness.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides a broad range of folk dancing and other cultural programming to OLLU students and the San Antonio community.

  • Fosters an international and intercultural understanding among the nations and cultures of the world to promote mental and physical fitness using folk dancing and other cultural heritage events.

  • Develops and implements co-curricular activities to enhance student learning of international cultures, fostering self-understanding and growth through university and community partnerships and with external groups for the IFCC endowment program.

  • Coordinates event scheduling and promotion for external groups, fostering collaborative efforts between these groups, faculty, staff, and students on campus; markets the IFCC space to external partners.

  • Coordinates and assists in management of the MARC facilities.

  • Works with the CSI Director and OLLU grant office to ensure all components of the IFCC endowment program are fulfilled.

  • Manages the recruitment, hiring, onboarding/training, supervision, evaluations, and timecard approval of IFCC and Campus Recreation student workers. Maintains student employment budget for the IFCC and Campus Recreation student employees.

  • Assists with effective budget management for specific programs and areas of responsibility.

  • Assesses and evaluates programs and services of functional areas.

  • Maintains web page and social media content for areas of responsibility.

  • Establishes a vibrant gathering place where OLLU's international students can connect and relax; works with international students to share their cultures with the wider OLLU community.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing Lake Day Orientation and Camp Blue Nation.

  • Participates in University and Student Affairs Division programs and activities as requested and assigned.

  • Develops and fosters collaborative relationships with faculty, key university departments and students in support of a vibrant and energetic campus community.

  • Serves on University and Student Affairs committees as assigned.

  • Maintains an environment congruent with the University mission and identity, and the Student Affairs mission.

  • Observes safety and risk management measures appropriate to work performed and programs supervised.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the CSI Director, AVP of Student Affairs, or VP of Student Affairs

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge or the ability to learn grant writing to pursue appropriate grants that would support the IFCC endowment program.

  • Philosophy, principles, and practices in the role of local arts and heritage programs and presentation of arts performances and events.

  • Knowledge or the ability to learn MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Teams, Zoom, or similar online/virtual meeting platforms.

  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality.

  • Must have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; works well independently and as part of a team.

  • Must demonstrate leadership ability and a commitment to collaborative work within a diverse and dynamic community. They should also possess effective communication skills to engage with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and parents.

  • Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines; ability to manage, follow-up, work in collaboration and finalize projects, crisis situations and other issue that may arise.

  • Sensitivity to and acceptance of personal and cultural differences and the ability to relate well with persons of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and evening hours.

  • Ability to lift at least 20 pounds, set-up for major events, and quickly respond to situations happening during events.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.

  • Three years of work experience in any of these areas: dance, multicultural programming, or international education required. (A master's degree may substitute one year of experience.)

  • At least one year of experience overseeing programs involving dance, multicultural activities, or international students required.

  • Knowledge of university student life environment preferred.

  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license and own mode of reliable transportation in order to prepare for events required.
