Responsibilities for the Coordinator for Bias Education & Advocacy include, but are not limited to the following:

Incident Response, Collection, and Reporting: Works collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President of Equity and Compliance to assess whether education, investigation, or a combination of both is appropriate if/when hate/bias incidents are reported to OIIE; coordinates and works through conflict assessment, management, and resolution measures for student-to-employee, employee-to-student, and employee-to-employee hate/bias incidents; continuously streamlines the process for handling hate/bias incidents, including providing support to impacted parties; develops and promotes campus-wide responses; organizes and maintains records of all reports, complaints, and incidents; and at least annually, reviews files to ensure the university's procedures and timelines are consistently followed

Curriculum Development and Education: Develops and implements curriculum to provide campus-wide education on Bias Incident Awareness & Prevention, maintaining alignment with IEES and university inclusive excellence priorities; collaborates with campus partners and committees to provide educational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff

Collaborative Advocacy and Communication: Works collaboratively with campus and community partners to ensure parties involved in hate/bias incidents have access to appropriate resources and support services, including counseling, health, and wellness resources; cultivates positive relationships with campus leadership as well as internal and external constituents to promote reciprocal communication and reduction of barriers in the reporting process; coordinates timely responses to complex issues of a confidential and sensitive nature

Departmental, Divisional and University Service: Supports IEES and OIIE programs, events, activities; represents IEES and OIIE on departmental, divisional, and University-wide committees; works collaboratively with all units as assigned

The work hours for this position may include weekends and evenings as needed.

Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., multicultural education; social sciences; gender, sexuality, and queer studies; disability studies; public policy or administration; communication; social justice or human rights; peace, justice & conflict studies, etc.)

  • One year of experience working with or on behalf of one or more diverse populations, including but not limited to people with disabilities, Latine/x, LGBTQ , African, African American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, Desi American, Native/Indigenous, mixed/multiracial, first generation, limited income, women, veterans, immigrants, and/or justice impacted

  • A commitment to continuous learning, research, and best practices in inclusive excellence

  • Knowledge of principles and practices around diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, accessibility, and belonging

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to speak publicly and facilitate trainings

  • Ability to work with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners

  • Ability to gather and analyze data and develop educational content

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., education; social sciences; gender, sexuality, and queer studies; disability studies; public policy or administration; communication; social justice; diversity, equity and inclusion; conflict resolution; mediation, etc.)

  • Prior experience with bias intervention, prevention, and/or education

  • Prior training in, and experience with delivery of conflict assessment, management, resolution, mediation, sustained or intergroup dialogue, restorative practice, and/or alternative dispute resolution

  • Knowledge of higher education, specifically focused on inclusive excellence education and training

  • Experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating trainings, workshops and resources that address diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, belonging, and social justice issues that impact minoritized and excluded communities
