Summary of Position

Assesses, develops, implements, administers, supervises, and evaluates comprehensive intramural, sport club, and recreational programs for the University community.

Position Information

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Designs, plans, administers, and evaluates a comprehensive program; develops and maintains area manuals; facilitates participant registration, forms, and waivers.

Creates, develops, and manages Campus Recreation programs in accordance with the policies and procedures governing the department and campus athletic facilities. Assists with the development and implementation of intentional marketing and communication strategic plan for past, current, and prospective participants.

Organizes and facilitates all student organization sports activities each semester. Assists with student organization functions, when in need of equipment and space.

Coordinates recruitment; hires, trains, schedules, mentors, evaluates, disciplines, and supervises all intramural, club sport, and youth programs student employees. Conducts bi-annual officiating and captain trainings; maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all participants and provides risk assessments for all activities.

Coordinates and collaborates with needed University staff to maintain esports location(s), including IT and facilities to meet scheduling and programming needs, challenges, and concerns.

Assists with the development and implementation of intentional marketing and communication strategic plan for past and prospective participants.

Conducts yearly assessment of the club sports, intramurals, esports, and youth programs.

Collaborates with all governing bodies to ensure all club sports, intramural and guidelines are being followed.

Coordinates and collaborates with needed University staff to schedule usage of facilities and/or off-campus facility locations when needed. Works with each club team to secure University funding, assists club sports teams with travel forms; conducts monthly club sports officers meeting. Works closely with Student Activities for adherence to university policies for student organizations; serves as campus advisor for all sport clubs.

Coordinates administration and overall operation of the program; creates and develops all policies and procedures for camps.

Coordinates recruitment; hires, trains, schedules, mentors, evaluates, disciplines, and supervises student employees, coordinates all planning and oversight of field trips and special events.

Assist with development and implementation of youth programs marketing plan.

Maintains up-to-date and accurate database of participants; responsible for registration process of program participants and provides risk assessments.

Assists in the development and implementation of revenue generating programs and services; researches and applies for potential grant funding and develops community partnerships.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:Purchases, inventories, and maintains equipment for intramural, esports, club sports and youth programs.

Assists with the development and monitoring of program budgets; verifies and submits student staff payroll.

Researches and develops new programs based on industry trends; assesses program needs and effectiveness through customer interest, participation statistics, satisfaction surveys, accomplishment of learning outcomes, and participant feedback. Maintains program participation data to generate area specific reports.

Represents the Department of Campus Recreation on campus wide committees and coordinates special event programs in the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

Works independently, with the ability and adaptability to use sound judgment and discretion to make decisions in managing the operations of the department, including emergency situations, with efficiency and effectiveness, without direct supervision.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Equipment Operated:Computer and all other standard office equipment.

Work Schedule:Typically, Monday through Friday. Ableto work evenings and weekends.

Supervision Exercised:May exercise supervision over student employees.

Reports to: Director, Andrews Student Recreations and Wellness Center

Qualifications and Competencies

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures:Obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: Standard practices in recreational sports for competitive sports (Club Sports & Intramurals) and youth programs; skills and abilities: University policies and procedures*; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives*; department/division policies and procedures*; workplace safety practices and procedures*; English grammar and spelling; records management; office management; project management.

Skill in: developing and implementing recreational programs; administering risk management practices for recreation programs; managing and organizing intramurals, sport clubs, and camps; working in a camp environment; leadership and supervision; working as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues; use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.

Ability to: Analyze facility operations and make necessary policy changes when needed; write concise, logical reports, set priorities, and complete assignments on time; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; determine material and equipment needs; compile and prepare reports; use proper research methods to gather data; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; effectively interact with personnel and public to answer routine questions; train or instruct others; move quickly and effectively from one tasks to another; work independently and in a team environment; develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:At least a bachelor's degree in recreation, sport management, or a related field; two or more years of progressive experience in recreation services or a related field (one year of experience and graduate assistant experience can be substituted for the two-year experience requirement.).

Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in recreation, sport management or a related field; knowledge of basic student development or education theory specific to leadership; demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures; demonstrated experience in relevant computer applications and revenue generating experience; active member of NIRSA.
