Job Description:

Summary:

Kogod's Center for Professionalism and Communications (CPC) is a student-facing and faculty/staff-supporting resource, teaching written and verbal communications skills, as well as professionalism skills such as teamwork, DEI skills, and leadership. The Center's reach and responsibilities continue to grow and require a full-time coordinator to assist the Senior Director and Associate Director, and ensure the success of myriad projects, workshops, tutoring, and new initiatives, especially around micro-credentialing and outreach to international students.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and organize workshop activities for micro-credentials and Business Professionalism course, including tracking students' badge journeys and participation. Assist the Associate Director with day-to-day logistics including tutoring portal, workshop sign-ups, event staffing, service projects, scheduling etc (30%) Provide clear and concise comments to spur revision on student writing; "spot-check" comments from peer tutors to ensure quality control on the more than 3,000 annual texts submitted for CPC written feedback.

  • Assist the Senior Director and Associate Director in delivering strong communication skills instruction in core courses. Keep the various websites (Canvas and SharePoint) updated with the latest versions of instructional materials.

  • Assist the Director and Associate Director in collecting and analyzing data to measure CPC's impact. Communicate data insights through visual and engaging media to clearly highlight opportunities and successes. Participate in student assessments including workshops, accreditation, and student worker feedback.

  • Assist the Senior Director and Associate Director in delivering strong communications skills instruction in core courses. Keep the various websites (Canvas and SharePoint) updated with the latest versions of instructional materials and suggest new content for virtual instruction. Market ProComms workshops, events, and services through social media with the help of student workers.

  • Support the Senior Director and Assoc Director in providing boutique writing and executive presentation coaching to MBA and other MS cohorts (will include some weekend work throughout the year).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-Time, 35 hours.

  • This is a union-eligible position.

Salary Range:

  • $55,000 to $57,000, commensurate with experience.

Travel Required:

  • None or locally, possible IE for service projects or conferences.

Required Education and Experience:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Communications, Education, English, or a related field.

  • 1-2 years experience in event planning.

  • 1-2 years experience as a college-level instructor, tutor, or TA.

  • Proficient in the MS Suite, especially Excel.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Business, Communications, Education, English, or a related field.

  • 2-3 years experience as a college-level instructor, tutor. or TA.

  • Proficient in the MS Suite, especially Excel, as well as in Qualtrics.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in facilitation, training, or coaching.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Other Information:

  • Under American University's new hybrid work agreement, this position requires three to four days on campus with the other 1-2 days available for remote work.
