A Co-op/ Internship job in Cherry Point, NC is available at Garney Construction. Garney is hiring for the Aug-Dec 2019 term currently.

As a Co-op / Intern at Garney, you are a participant, not just an observer. You will perform a variety of tasks during your work term. You may work hands-on in the field or in the main office alongside project management and estimating personnel.

During your term, you will gain perspective for how we construct our projects. Our goal is to make your co-op / internship a positive learning experience that allows you to gain an understanding of the industry and Garney's superior methods of conducting business.


Candidates must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in construction management, civil or mechanical engineering, or other related field.

Co-op / Intern Skill Development

Our Co-ops / Interns have an opportunity to gain experience in many areas of construction, such as the following:

  • Craft experience

  • Job site surveying

  • Process and review shop drawings

  • Subcontractor coordination

  • Update as-built documents

  • Work with scheduling system

  • Detailed drafting

  • Purchasing and material expediting

  • Invoice verification and inventory analysis

  • Promote job site safety

  • Track labor and projections

  • Daily and periodic report updates


Garney expects its Co-ops / Interns to be able to work on their feet for an entire day, understand and perform assigned tasks, arrive at work on time every day, and adhere to safety policies and procedures.

Project Coordinator responsibilities include coordinating activities for Onvoi job locations, contracts, and for the Corporate office. These activities include day-to-day site needs, establishing and monitoring contract requirements, perform quality assurance on non-technical activities, manage and resolve site issues, support proposal writing efforts for new jobs, develop and maintain job related policies and procedures, and other duties as required. The overall objective of the Project Coordinator is to ensure our contract operations run as efficiently and effectively as possible. Responsibilities: * Track and insure monthly reports and CDRLs on all contracts are delivered to USG on time and filed properly internally * Assist each site with resource allocation, scheduling, conflict resolution, etc. * Develop training needs for each site and employee; track to insure contract compliance * Develop safety plans, train employees, and track completion * Perform contractual quality control for each contract and track compliance * Manage and maintain relationships with each site lead * Manage and maintain relationships with USG POCs for each contract * Develop a detailed project plan to track progress * Manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs * Report and escalate issues to management as needed * Manage contracts to minimize project risks * Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation * Other duties as assigned. * Skills and experience in managing projects and people * Able to manage multiple project and task simultaneously and prioritize tasks * College degree or equivalent work experience * Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills * Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office * PMP/PRINCE II certification is a plus * Primary military experience a strong plus About Onvoi, LLC Onvoi, LLC provides a variety of aviation related services to the government and commercial customers.
