Overview

Our Atlanta, GA office is seeking a Co-op Engineer to join our Transportation Group for Summer 2019!

Relocation is not provided for this position.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, assists assigned department(s) and/or project(s) by performing basic engineering-related tasks which may reflect elements of standard post-secondary engineering curriculum, usually on a part-time, temporary, or co-op basis.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assists engineer teams in various tasks and duties.

  • Assists Engineer with research, development and design of projects.

  • Assists Engineer with the preparation of engineering drawings and documents as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform basic engineering calculations

  • Organize information for use in drawings or other documents

  • Assist other engineers in various tasks and duties

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Completion of 2 years of post-secondary civil engineering program

  • Previous internship or co-op experience

  • AutoCAD or MicroStation experience

  • Emphasis or coursework completed in transportation

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.

Operations Analysis & Performance (OAP) Co-op: Operations Analysis & Performance co-ops will work with analytics professionals supporting one of the following functions or departments: * Airport Customer Service (ACS) - Airport process from check-in to bag claim * Competitive Analysis & Schedule Support (CASS) - Optimize aircraft schedule to maintain peak on-time performance * Corporate Safety, Security & Compliance (CSSC) - Support the safe and secure operation of the airline * Delta Connection (DC) - Regional carrier liaison * Flight Operations (FOP) - Gate-to-gate pilot and crew performance * Operations & Customer Center (OCC) - On-time flight metrics * Technical Operations (TOP) - Maintenance operations Though individual responsibilities will vary by function, some examples are given below: 1)Measure current operational performance and/or customer satisfaction 2)Identify optimization opportunities to reduce injuries and security line wait times 3)Research, analyze and interpret archived data 4)Develop new reports and dashboards and automate existing ones 5)Perform reliability/root-cause analysis for parts and maintenance 6)Evaluate aircraft time at gate, gating efficiency, and feasibility of aircraft schedules 7)Seek operational improvements to reduce aircraft taxi time and flight time 8)Maintain, run and improve staffing models to support airport operations 9)Provide strategic and operational support and develop performance metrics and goals The following are required to be considered for this position: 1)Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, Business/Management, Mathematics/Statistics, Economics or related quantitative field - some positions may require a minimum of 30 completed semester hours 2)A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint 3)Experience or a demonstrated interest in data analysis and coding, preferably SQL - some positions may require specific coding skills such as SAS, VBA 4)Strong written and oral communication skills 5)Availability for 3 alternating work terms starting Summer 2019 6)A professional image with a team orientation and the ability to perform under pressure Applicants requiring a work visa or company sponsorship now or at any point in the future may be hired as co-ops but will not be considered for future full-time opportunities.
