OakView Health Center is hiring a full time Line Cook and two part time Prep Cooks to work a very flexible schedule.

The Cook prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the department supervisor, to assure that quality food is provided at all times.

  • Reviews menus prior to preparation of food.

  • Prepares and cooks food according to menu directions and standardized recipes.

  • Prepares and cooks food in a safe, efficient, sanitary manner.

  • Tastes all food prepared and consults with supervisor regarding finished product.

  • Maintains assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.

  • Serves meals according to diet specifications.

  • Serves food in accordance with established portion control procedures.

  • Determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and seeing that supplies are obtained from storage areas in adequate time for meal production.

  • Plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours, so that excellence, quality, temperature and appearance of food is preserved.

  • Stores leftover foods in appropriate containers and appropriately labeled.

  • Responds timely to requests from residents for alternate items at mealtime.

  • Assures nursing department received necessary dietary items for nourishment pass timely and accurately.

  • Monitors and reports any safety, sanitation or food handling concerns to supervisor immediately.

  • Assists Dietary Manager with food inventory and ordering, if needed.


  • Knowledge of basic dietary principles and diet.

  • At least one year of recipe-based food preparation experience.

  • Preferred experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution.

  • Knowledge of special diets is preferred.

  • Able to read, write and understand English.

  • Able to perform simple calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide).

  • Good organizational skills ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Effective time management able to meet timeline for meal preparation and serving.

  • Good interpersonal relationships.

  • Good leadership skills able to lead and direct others.

  • Able to adequately perform physical requirements of position.
