We are currently looking for a full-time Cook to work within our Skilled Nursing and Rehab Community. As a Cook at The Wesleyan, you will be an integral part of a mission and values-based organization that provides endless opportunities for career growth.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Produce all food items according to designated recipes and/or product directions indicated for preparation, seasoning, cooking, carving, and serving for all menu food items.

  • Knowledge and measured skill level for various preparation techniques, including but not limited to, cook to order and cook/chill, Puree, Mech soft.

  • Ability to safely operate a variety of kitchen equipment, including but not limited to, oven, industrial mixers, tilt skillets, steam jacket kettles, low- and high-pressure steamers, convection steamers, grills, griddles, buffalo choppers, garbage disposals, knives, deep fryers, portion scales, portion control scoops and spoons.

  • Alert Dietary Supervisor to any shortages or outages prior to service periods.

  • Knowledge and ability to implement proper food handling and storage.

  • Knowledge and ability to implement proper garnishing and food presentation.

  • Able to work unsupervised for extended periods.

  • Able to use a calculator, computer, and telephone.

  • Possess and able to use basic math skills to complete required forms and schedules.

  • Responsible for providing prepared food supplies of the highest quality for service to the residents.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all food items and supplies needed for operation are communicated to the Supervisor.

  • Responsible for following all recipes and designated production techniques are understood and followed.

  • Responsible for the safe operation of all kitchen equipment.

  • Responsible for preparation of recipes for special diet considerations.

  • Expected to clean and sanitize all work areas and equipment.

  • Review production sheets, menus, and special event forms for day's preparation.

  • Collect necessary supplies from storage needed to prepare all meals.

  • Begin preparation making sure food is kept at safe temperatures.

  • Relieve other cooks during breaks.

  • Finish preparing menu items for the day.

  • Assist front line with back up.

  • Other duties assigned by the Executive Chef.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • One (1) or two (2) years of experience as a cook's helper, grill cook, or line cook are required. A combination of professional schooling and experience will be considered.

  • Additional course work in any license culinary institution desirable.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • A servant-minded approach to all aspects of the job.

  • A passion for working within a senior living and/or assisted living community is a plus!
