The Cook prepares and serves high quality culinary dishes to our residents and guests in a timely manner. The Cook is responsible for preparing health menus of fresh ingredients and food presentation approved by the Director of Dining Services. Our restaurant and cafe function in a similar way to a hotel or private club restaurant and/or cafe.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years' experience as a cook/chef in a restaurant or catering setting

  • Valid Food Services Sanitation Certificate

  • Certificate from an accredited culinary arts school preferred

  • Ability to produce exceptionally tasty and health meals from fresh ingredients for residents

  • Provides strong customer service orientation

  • Knowledge of multiple cooking techniques

  • knowledge of food control and food handling processes

Elder care in assisted living, skilled nursing and home care. Food is one of the keys to a happy healthy life. We are looking for Cooks that can add to the favor of the lives of our Elder population. Creating and serving yummy nutritional food that meets; national, state, city and OSHA - health and safety standards including special need of our elder population. Will interact directly with dietary management team, residents, their families, and all levels of staff. Employee needs ability to move continuously; may cover large distances walking through facility and is on feet consistently. Frequently required bend, stoop, reach, crouch, push and pull; occasionally required to squat, crawl, climb, kneel and balance. Employee is required to continuously lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds; frequently required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and carry up to thirty-five (35) pounds and occasionally lift and carry up to one hundred (100) pounds. Ability to adapt to changes in daily work hour and schedule. Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Friendly and enjoy working with the elderly. 2. High School diploma/GED required preferred. Education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets preferred. 3. Minimum of two year food service experience in a healthcare dietary setting preferred. 4. Must be eighteen (18) years of age. 5. General knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving required. 6. Ability to communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff, residents, family members and the public. 7. Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in keeping work record, monitoring inventory control and supplies, and in recipe preparation. 8. Possesses adequate strength and endurance to meet the strenuous physical demands of preparing and carrying quantity foods. 9. Possesses coordination and dexterity required to prepare food and operate dietary equipment. 10. Able to understand and follow procedures, recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments. 11. Visual acuity and color discrimination for examining cooked and stored foods; taste and smell discrimination in determining nutritional quality and palatability of foods. 12. Works in an area that is often very hot/cold. 13. Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.
