The Salvation Armys Older Alaskans Program (OAP) is currently seeking a full-time Lead Cook in the central kitchen. The Lead Cook enhances the program by preparing and providing well-balanced and attractive meal service for clients. This position oversees
production for a high-volume kitchen preparing 500+ meals per day not only for the OAPs home-delivered meals and group meal sites, but also for The Salvation Armys McKinnell House that provides temporary emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness.
This position requires the ability to maintain the confidentiality of all clients served and to express dignity and respect to all clients.
This is a non-exempt, full-time position (40 hrs per week) with benefits. Starting rate: $14.00/hour.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE but are not limited to:
Work with the Food Service Manager in menu preparation, ordering, and storing food
Provide oversight and prepare all food per a preplanned menu cycle
Maintain quality food standards with respect to content, texture, and temperature
Assure all foods are held at proper temperature to prohibit bacterial growth; maintain accurate temperature records
Supervises and provides direction to kitchen staff
High School diploma or GED and at least 5 years experience cooking in an unsupervised and/or institutional setting
Current ServeSafe Certification or ability to acquire within 30 days of hire
Ability to work with minimal supervision and to lead the work of the central kitchen staff
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet demands of department
Team oriented individual with a solid work ethic
Must complete and adhere to Protect the Mission (PTM) requirements and guidelines, including acceptable results on the background checks required by The Salvation Army for employment (including fingerprint-based check)
Current Alaska driver license and acceptable MVR background record required
