JOB SUMMARY:

This position will work under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager. Within this general framework, specific duties will vary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare and serve food for meal service utilizing safe food handling practices and program procedures.Operates, cleans and maintains kitchen equipment safely.Accurately completes production records using department softwarePrepares service areas for serviceAccurately use various computer systems necessary to complete job dutiesEnsure that customers are able to move through serving lines expeditiouslyAssist in maintaining a safe, healthful environment in the lunchroom areaAssists other employees in preparing for meal service and cleaning of kitchen areaCashier for meal service ensuring program standards are met.Assist in putting stock away.Able to fill in for assistant kitchen manager if requestedWash dishes, pots and pans and be able to safely operate and clean dishwasherAssist with other food and nutrition related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.Ensure safe food handling, preparation and cleaning according to HACCP standards, program procedures and health department regulations.Understands and carries out oral and written directions.Communicates effectively, positively and professionally with administration, staff and students in oral and written form.Maintains confidentiality and displays ethical behavior.Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a State Food Handler's Permit.High School diploma or equivalent.Must have current Level 1 School Nutrition Association certification.Must have at least two years experience in school food service or institutional cooking.Understand and carry out oral and written directions.Knowledge of and ability to apply basic child nutrition guidelines and requirements.Must be able to serve food across serving area.Must be able to stand for long periods of time on a hard surface.Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials and safe work practices.Must be able to read, write and perform accurate mathematics for keeping records and reports.Must have ability to get along with students, co-workers, and building staff.Must be willing to maintain and update food service abilities by attending workshops, conferences, food shows, and in service programs.Must maintain continuing education requirements to meet USDA regulations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of the Mead Support and Service Professionals and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. A typical school year consists of 180 days plus 10 holidays, September through June of each school year. The individual number of days may vary by position as defined within the CBA.

The salary range for the position is: Min $16.72 - Max $19.56. Salary placement will be at step 1 on the appropriate scale for the position unless otherwise noted within the contract. Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. A maximum of three (3) days of annual leave are provided for all employees based on the employee's scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out.

Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the State Department of Retirement Services.
