Position Summary

  • Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions

  • The Cook prepares and serves food including texture modified and therapeutic diets according to the facility menu.

  • Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, in line with our established policies and procedures, and, as may be directed by the Dining Services Director or Chef, to ensure that quality food service is provided at all times.

  • The Cook assists in assuring proper receiving, storage, preparation, serving, sanitation, and cleaning procedures are followed.

  • The Cook must be detail-oriented, well-groomed, act professionally and must be a team player who works well with others.

  • The Cook must assist dietary aides as necessary, and, directs other employees with approval and in the absence of the Dining Services Director.

  • The Cook consistently embodies the characteristics necessary to drive the Company's Purpose, Vision, Values, and DNA.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Specialized training in foodservice is desirable. May be required to successfully complete an approved sanitation and safety course.

  • Ability to read, speak and understand English, follow directions and complete tasks.

  • Ability to follow time schedules for meal preparation and serving.

  • Maintains a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance.

  • Dependable, with experience working in facilities utilizing quantity food production methods.

  • General knowledge and understanding of nutrition.

  • Ability to read and accurately apply requirements of food tray cards.

  • Ability to maintain records and complete reports as required.

  • Written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of quantity food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements and procedures.

  • Ability to interact positively with residents, client and other personnel and the public.

  • Compliance with COVID-19 Vaccination Policies, as required by State, Local, and/or Customers.

  • Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend and walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to work around food and cleaning products.

  • Must live in service area. No relocation costs.

VIEW JOBS 1/14/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-04-14T00:00 POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for culinary services for the Residential Treatment Facility --Adults (RTF-A)/Natale North Norristown Forensic program and RTF-A/New Beginnings Norristown Civil programs which serve adults with diagnosed behavioral health and/or substance abuse issues. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Collaborate with other cooks at the program to prepare meals for the residents based on the menu schedule provided by the dietician * Maintain accurate food inventories in order to prepare the proper foods based on residents' nutritional, medical and/or treatment needs * Rotate stock items (e.g. canned items, non-perishable items) per established program protocols to ensure food items are utilized in the proper sequence; inspect food products regularly for expiration dates * Ensure the work environment and stations, including the food prep area and kitchen, are cleaned and sanitized after every meal and at the end of the assigned shift per the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) regulations * Communicate with the dietician, nurses, and Operation Managers to remain knowledgeable about what the menu should entail and to make adjustments or accommodations regarding resident meals as necessary * Make sure any changes to the menu are documented and initialed and communicated with the residents so the residents are aware of what is being offered * Adhere to best practices and the careful preparation of food items per ServSafe standards * Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, crisis intervention and medication administration using agency-trained protocols * Perform other duties as assigned IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Operations CONTACTS: Residents, Elwyn staff, funding sources, Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), contractors, vendors, county and state representatives EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: * High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read and write English * Two (2) years cooking experience in a professional environment * Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and to prepare meals based on a resident's specific diet * Strong knowledge of proper food handling procedures; ServSafe certification preferred (must receive and maintain ServSafe certification within ninety (90) days of starting the position) * Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently * Able to work a flexible work schedule including early mornings, nights, and/or weekends * Ability to use food preparation equipment, including knives and other sharp objects in the preparation of meals * Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team * Demonstrated strong attention to detail * Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills * Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions * Must be able to perform CPR, first aid, crisis intervention and medical administration using agency-trained protocols * Must possess excellent customer interaction, collaboration, written and verbal communication skills * Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and has experience utilizing food vendor databases (e.g. for food ordering, invoicing) PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL PROFILE: See Physical Demands Checklist below which represents the general physical demands and environment conditions to which the employee holding this position must meet, in addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
