Under direction of the Camp Director, the Cook will be responsible for handling food services throughout Camp Kiwanis during the summer season. This includes preparing, cooking, serving, cleaning, and assisting in the planning of camp meals and snacks in a safe, sanitary, and nutritious manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve all meals on scheduled time
Assure that all equipment is properly maintained and operated
Perform daily cleaning tasks in kitchen and dining areas
Assure the proper opening and closing of kitchen and dining areas
Conduct daily safety inspections, insure first aid gear on site
Perform refrigeration and freezer temperature checks on weekly basis
Maintain temperature logs for refrigeration and dishwasher
Assure the hot water is set at proper temperature
Purchase or assist with planning of orders for supplies, food, & equipment within approved budget
Assist in unloading food items from delivery and storing appropriately
Assist in packing of food for special programs
Assist in annual evaluations and make recommendations for next season
Supervise vendors to assure quality of services delivered (garbage, refrigeration, floors, janitorial, fire alarm system, pest control)
Promote and stimulate health and nutritional programs
Assure that all assigned staff are properly trained and supervised
Assist in evaluating the abilities of assigned staff
Assist in award recognition program for LINK members
Administer First Aid and CPR if needed
Other duties as assigned
Regulations & Guidelines
Assure that food services programs operate within the guidelines set by Camp Kiwanis, Madison County Health Department, State of GA Health Department, American Camping Association, and ORS-USDA (sanitary, health, employee standards)
Assure that assigned staff work within guidelines set by State of GA Labor Department and OSHA
Maintain ORS-USDA records as assigned
Maintain Athens Food Bank records and standards (inventory & proper storage)
Conduct monthly inventories as directed by USDA
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SKILLS:
Ability to communicate with and train staff, campers, and volunteers in safety, job functions, and emergency procedures
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to Franklin Hall and food services
Physical ability to drive a golf cart
Ability to observe staff and camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate disciplinary procedures
Cognitive and communication abilities to promote and facilitate Franklin Hall's food service and rental programs
Must be age 18 or older with First Aid and CPR certified.
Effective communication and inter-personal skills.
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum one year experience preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
Training and experience in food service management
Ability to schedule and supervise staff
Ability and desire to work with and supervise youth
Ability to work with limited supervision
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to lift heavy or bulky food items up to 50 pounds. Kitchen and dining hall environment within a camp setting working with and around teens and younger members.
