Cook Assistant, Outdoor School

JOB TITLE: COOK ASSISTANT, OUTDOOR SCHOOL

REPORTS TO: Program Supervisor, Site Supervisor, Site Head Cook

POSITION PURPOSE: Provide assistance to the Outdoor School Site Head Cook in the preparation of meals for the Outdoor School program.

NATURE & SCOPE: This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations, and applicable State and Federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

Pay: $17.58/Hour

Good food and meals are essential to students' success at Outdoor School. Meals for students that are delicious, plentiful, and healthy can make or break a student's experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Preparation work for each meal includes, but is not limited to:

• baking

• making salads

• preparing vegetable displays

• Preparing serving area for each meal.

• Preparing snacks for the afternoon. cabin time.

• Preparing snacks for adults / high school students in the evening.

• Placing food into serving dishes for tables during meals.

• Filling condiment containers (sugar, salt, pepper, ketchup, etc.)

• Cleaning counters and coffee area after meals.

• Sweeping / mopping floors as needed.

• Washing pots/pans as needed.

• Cleaning cooking utensils.

• Unloading and stacking deliveries.

• Preparing boxes for students cook-outs.

• Filling flour / sugar bins as needed.

• Serving meals to site population.

• Washing dishes as needed.

• Communicate with others utilizing appropriate verbal and non-verbal interactions.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Other cleaning as assigned by the Head Cook.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to relate to children and adolescents in a friendly and pleasant manner.

• Ability to obtain Food Handlers Card and complete online SafeSchools training prior to the first day on the job. Computers and space can be provided if needed

• Knowledge of proper kitchen hygiene and attire.

• Ability to pass a background check.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Food preparation experience.
