Providence is calling a Cook and Food Service Assistant to Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, OR. You will work from Saturday - Wednesday each week. This position is a Cook 2 days (Saturday and Sunday from 5am-1pm). On Monday-Wednesday you will work mostly as a Prep-Cook from 6pm-2:30am, while delivering patient trays and operating the cafe from 12am-2:30am.

You will provide courteous, friendly food service to a variety of user groups including employees, visitors, physicians, and patients. Primary focus will be on preparing hot and cold food items using a variety of prep and production cooking equipment, following scratch recipes and department specifications. This position uses experience and knowledge of proper food handling techniques to prep items used in their area, to serve all food service guests and will be responsible to set up, stock, and clean service areas.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Prepares food items as requested per customer order, preparing hot and cold menu selections, using of cooking equipment including a grill, fryer, broiler, oven, cheese melter, deli prep table, induction burners.

  • Organizes, stocks, cleans, and replenishes food display areas and storage ensuring proper food storage temperatures and rotation per department guideline.

  • Prepares food according to recipe and procedures using appropriate equipment.

  • Cleans and sanitizes food areas, and organizes work area.

  • Seeks ways to improve service and quality of items served to customers and shares ideas with management.

  • Performs meal prep in a time manner from receipt of the order to meal on way to delivery.

  • Meet quality standards as set by the department.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • On the job training, formal culinary arts program, military apprentice program -or- 1 year experience as a cook or short order cook.

  • Experience in team environment with common goals.

  • Health Department Food Handlers Certificate required within the first two weeks of employment.

  • Able to follow recipes and read orders.

  • Able to work in a busy work environment.

  • Able to maintain pleasant demeanor and use good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Able to observe customer non-verbal actions and respond appropriately.

  • Able to communicate and follow recipes and directions.

  • Able to create food of optimum quality within short periods utilizing previous experiences when recipes are not available.

In this position you will be responsible for the following responsibilities: * Demonstrates positive interactions with the public, and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors, and other department employees. * Responsible for setting up, stocking, replenishing, and cleaning service areas. * Takes customer orders, operates cash register, buses tables, preps food, takes phone orders. * Performs job duties as per specific job duties posted in job task manual. * Provides excellent customer service through use of the 5-10 rule, key words and positive interactions with patients, visitors, medical staff and hospital staff to meet department goals. * Meet QA standards as set by the dept. * Performs tray set up assignments in a timely manner. * Delivers trays to patients in an appropriate and timely manner. * Records I & O daily for patient care on RN sheets.
