ABB Inc., in Auburn Hills, Michigan is seeking for a Controls Test Software Engineer to join our Robotics and Motion team, the first major global industrial robotics manufacturer to produce robots in the United States. ABB is the leading supplier of industrial robots, modular manufacturing systems and service and has installed more than 250,000 robots worldwide.

Provide Controls Engineering Test Hardware and Software development, support and leadership along with direction to the organization through review, design, support, communication and execution of engineering, debug and validation. Successfully manage multiple application projects as a lead test engineer.

Your responsibilities

  • Support ABB installations of Powertrain Automated Systems. Support Lead Controls Project Engineer, development and troubleshooting of software solutions for Test and Gauge stations within powertrain assembly systems.

  • Lead test application hardware and software throughout the project. Engineer, Startup, Debug and Production support involving test applications.

  • Proven track record of leading test engineering, debug, and validation teams in a Powertrain assembly environment. Advanced training, knowledge, and awareness in Automated Systems and Robot Applications, functional knowledge of Robotics and/or Automation and functional experience working with engineering design projects and machine startup

  • Good working knowledge of mechanical systems Competence in hardware design involving PC based DAQ systems components, with strong knowledge of all types of sensors: ie. digital probes, LVDT, load cells, torque, temperature, pressure, flow, encoders, accelerometers

  • Experience with various DAQ modes: time based, angle based, order based, buffered acquisition; signal analysis experience with windowing, peak detection, FFT, filters; Statistical Process Analysis GR&R, CPK, Type 1 & 2 studies. LabVIEW programming, VFD and Servo Motors, Torque control applications (Nutrunners and fastening systems)

  • Test and Gauge stations, with Strong trouble shooting skills with history of solving complex problems, and functional experience with Auto-CAD/ePLAN.

Your background

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 5 years of experience in automation, test, manufacturing, OR

  • Associate Degree in a Technical field and 7 years of experience in automation, test, manufacturing, OR

  • High School Diploma or GED and 9 years of experience in automation, test, manufacturing.

  • Open to travel about 25% of the time, mostly for customer sites.

  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.

Key Responsibilities * Responsibility for planning, coordination and execution of all testing activities for a given program(s) with management guidance. * Adhere to GKN software test standards. * Develop Test Plans and execute to test Internal and external customer software releases. * Create Test Objectives which align with the test plan. * Determine required deliverables from all test sections. * Lead project test teams in determining tests, objectives and deliverables required for verification of the software. * Represent the test group to project management, software team and other internal customers. * Ensure that all test sections are successfully executed and highlight any risk to the program team. * Track progress and effectiveness of the test effort and report to the program team. * Advocate the appropriate level of quality and resolution of important defects to the program team. * Develop/support test and process automation. * Create and communicate metrics and test reports to the program team and management. * Manage global test team support for program(s). * Communication with Customer validation SME to ensure that GKN is using latest tool/technique as per Customer expectations * Ensure traceability of the test artifacts to requirements. Required Qualifications: * Engineering degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent. * 1+ years of experience in test automation in automotive area. * Knowledge of the Vector Tool Chain. Preferred Qualifications * Experience in developing a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system. * Experience with Agile Software Development Processes. * Experience in the use of test management tools like PTC Integrity. * Knowledge in automotive standards such as ISO 26262 and Automotive Spice. * Proven communication, teamwork and organizational talents. * Working knowledge of C, C++, C#, VB.NET, Access and SQL. * Experience in developing GUI applications. * Knowledge of all aspects of the software engineering process * Experience in a wide variety of testing efforts, techniques and tools * People skills, especially diplomacy and advocacy skills * Planning and management skills * Knowledge of the domain, system or application-under-test (desirable) * Experience programming or managing programming teams (desirable) * Fluent in English * Ability to work independently * Ability to travel independently About Us GKN is a global engineering business.
