Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to provide skilled electrical and controls services on a small construction crew commissioned to perform pipeline repairs and new construction activities on field operations projects throughout the pipeline system in a safe and efficient manner and within company and regulatory agency procedures.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
Work on a small construction crew on projects anywhere on Northern's pipeline system in the performance of construction activities requiring the need for electrical and control services including the repair, calibration, installation, inspection and analysis of electric, electronic, computer, pneumatic and hydraulic controls.
Analyze performance of equipment through the use of test data and make recommendations for improvement of existing equipment, control systems and computerized electronic monitor and alarm equipment.
Install additions and replacement equipment to ensure compliance with company standards and industrial codes.
Calibrate, repair and test digital equipment used in compressor stations and other field facilities (i.e., pressure and flow transducers, recorders and control devices).
Required to assist field operations teams with pipeline associated tasks such as: line locates, surveys, pipeline leak repair, pipeline maintenance on regulator, TBS, relief valves and farm taps when construction activities stop or are impaired due to weather or other conditions.
Utilize computers and e-mail for internal and external communication, record keeping, on-line reporting, material and supply ordering and filing of various forms.
Maintain records for required state, federal and company procedures.
Participate in team budgeting, planning, and decision-making.
Maintain cleanliness and general appearance of facilities and surrounding work area.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
High school degree/high school equivalency diploma/technical degree and/or natural gas industry experience with a mechanical/electrical background is a plus.
Must be trained and verified at Controls III skill level or possess three to five years equivalent industry related experience.
Effectively work in a directed team environment that includes shared responsibilities; establish and maintain good working relationships with team members, landowners, contractors and customers; support team and company objectives and be willing to work in any and all areas of operations as requested.
Operate work equipment, power tools, hand tools and specialized instruments used in storage field and plant operations, maintenance and repair of facilities.
Must be willing to work required overtime, travel to offsite construction locations, sometimes for long periods of time.
Subject to Department of Transportation drug and alcohol related regulations and testing.
Must be a positive team member 100% dedicated to team objectives and consistently demonstrate a sense of urgency and responsibility.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to identify work priorities, meet deadlines and function with little or no supervision.
Must have good oral and written communication skills. Good working knowledge of computers is essential.
Must possess valid driver's license.
Ability to read and interpret operating manuals.
Subject to hazardous conditions including escaping gas, adverse weather conditions and temperatures, heights, high-pressure gas, heavy lifting and cramped working quarters.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Subject to 24-hour call-out, 7 days per week, will be required to carry a pager and/or cell phone.
Must be willing to work overtime including holidays, weekends and extended days.
