Duration: Consulting Position, 12 months

Location: Wilmington, NC 28405

Job Title: Controls Technician

Shift: Full time 8am-5pm (Some OT Included)

Scope of Position:

Provides first and second level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues in the department. Works hands-on with manufacturing equipment and activities. Identifies and supports process improvements. Uses judgment, experience and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.

  • Provide first and second level troubleshooting of equipment/process issues

  • Receive training from engineering in technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) areas, on new processes/equipment and/or on procedural changes

  • Serve as a SME in specific technical areas to minimize engineering production support requirements

  • Develop/maintain a system to keep production teams current on process, equipment and procedures

  • Work with support groups and production teams to coordinate and direct equipment start-up, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes

  • Preventive Maintenance support

  • Receive training in new processes/equipment and/or procedure changes from engineering

  • Provide technical training for associates

Required Experience and

Skills:
  • Two year electrical/mechanical technical degree preferred (Will consider experienced candidates with demonstrated skills).

  • Need electrical background and experience troubleshooting circuits

  • Candidates should have some PLC knowledge of opening up code and troubleshooting(not installation or programming).

  • Mechanically and Electrically inclined (aptitude for both)

  • Good written and verbal communication skills (detailed oriented)

  • PC proficient (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Passdown)

  • Willing to act as a motivator and role model for the shift

Position Summary This position supports the operations process in providing and maintaining service to new and existing customers by learning a working knowledge of computer system, tools, equipment, and material. The position will be learning the day-to-day operations and specifications of the distribution system. In addition to normal work, position must be available to be on-call with a more experienced person as required and to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends or holidays, to perform work required during planned outages or emergency situations. The position must learn to perform all duties in a safe manner and adhere to all Company safety rules and procedures. Responsibilities * Familiar with and understand the overhead and underground electrical distribution system and have troubleshooting skills and ability to assess level or repair required * Experienced climber * Assist with construction, maintenance of the distribution system * Demonstrate a basic understanding of overhead and underground insulate and isolate principles * Familiar with and understand the electrical distribution system by completing the Line and Service Training modules * Know, adhere to, and promote personal and work group safety practices to prevent accidents and injuries * Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities * Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills * Maintains accurate records and files * Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally * Complete all required craft training and development courses Working Conditions * Shift Work, Overtime, Weekend Work * Frequent travel * Work environment ranges from indoors to outside in varying degrees of heat and cold weather conditions * Emergency situations may require working at night and in inclement weather * Subject to confined spaces (manholes, vaults, etc.) Basic/Required Qualifications * High School diploma or equivalent * Valid class A CDL * Experienced climber * Thorough understanding of an electrical distribution system * Troubleshooting skills and ability to assess level of repair required for overhead and underground systems Distribution Line & Service Technician I: * Minimum of three (3) years of distribution line and service work OR Distribution Line & Service Technician II: * Minimum of five (5) years of distribution line and service work Desired Qualifications * Experience working on secondary voltage (DLST1) * Experience working on secondary and primary voltage (DLST 2) * Experience working with customers * Understanding of overhead and underground * Working knowledge of a work management system * Know, adhere to, and demonstrate leadership in promoting personal and work group safety practices to prevent accidents and injuries. * Demonstrate proficiency in constructing, maintaining, and operating the distribution system, and to ensure public safety and customer satisfaction * Clear written and oral communication skills Specific Requirements * DOT Certification * DOT Physical * Respirator Clearance * Post-Offer Employment Testing (POET) Assessment * This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job.
