A Controls Technician is recognized as a leader within the company in their area of expertise; responsible for projects of considerable scope and complexity often with little or no supervision for extended periods, including frequent interaction with internal associates, external customers, and suppliers. They will split their time between in-house to support project design, debug, test, and validation and customer support for project installation, start-up, and commissioning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary deliverables of the Electrical Engineering team include control concepts, software development, electrical schematics, pneumatic drawings, and documentation that support the following functions:
PLC and HMI system design (operational strategy, controller specification, I/O selection and assignment, software application development)
Control system hardware selection and schematic design (electrical bill of material, cable and wire labels, phenolic tags, floor plan information)
Electrical enclosure and industrial control panel design (device layout, raceway sizing, cooling calculations, utility requirements)
Electrical assembly, installation, and integration documentation (line control strategy, connectivity, and interlocks necessary for project assembly, installation, start-up, commissioning, and service)
Authority in all Douglas electrical standards including engineering and assembly standards, national codes (NEC, NFPA79 and UL508A), and any other applicable standards and codes
Provides solutions for electrical/mechanical integration within machines, as well as electrical/mechanical solutions for line integration
Tests and validates machine circuits, components, and controls to achieve proper performance, quality, safety, and operation
Assures that all machine functions have been thoroughly tested prior to project commissioning
Mentors and coaches new Electrical Engineering staff
Expert in the operation, programming, and troubleshooting of all machine controls (hardware and software) including PLC, HMI, and coordinated motion
Diagnoses and corrects machine electrical issues (including adjustment and replacement of components, controls, electro-mechanical devices, etc.)

Strong creativity and problem solving skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
High proficiency in the use of personal computers and related software
Ability to read, understand, and apply knowledge of written information, electrical wiring diagrams, OEM manuals, schematics, etc.
Packaging machine experience
Programming and/or program troubleshooting experience (Rockwell)
Computer Aided Design/Drafting (CAD) experience (SolidWorks preferred)
Demonstrated positive customer interaction and leadership skills
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
Consistently exceeded expectations in previous role
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Requires one of the following:
Requires an A.A. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, and a minimum of 8 years work experience in a related field
Requires a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Demonstrated success in the design, debug, test, validation, installation, start-up, and commissioning of packaging equipment
