Job Summary

Assist the Control Systems Specialist to provide hardware and software troubleshooting and technical support for the DCS, SIS and other automation systems at the Freeport LNG Facilities. Ensure facility controls automation and machinery function safely, efficiently, reliably and within budgetary limits, utilizing allocated resources, with the objective of meeting business goals for production while minimizing unscheduled equipment down time. Provide assistance to the FLNG Control System Specialist for day-to-day maintenance activities. Establish minimum and maximum spare parts for the facility automation systems and develop routine maintenance, backup and upgrade schedules and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage administrative and documentation requirements for tasks such as configuration backups, software revisions, downloading configuration changes, graphics development and modification, and implementing software changes of design.

  • Assist with troubleshooting problems with input/output errors, controllers, consoles, networks, analyzing equipment failure logs, etc. and managing spare parts inventory. Daily walk thru check on control systems. Assist troubleshooting efforts associated with the DCS to avoid or minimize production upsets and/or downtime. Work with Operations in completing interlock test procedures and provide assistance in updating those procedures when necessary. Interface directly with vendor representatives for firmware/hardware upgrades and other DCS vendor/customer communications.

  • Participate as needed in functional check-outs of new equipment. Communicate with others to ensure successful checkout, start-up, and commissioning of projects involving DCS, SIS, FGS and PLCs. Read and interpret drawings (P&ID, Logic, etc.) sketches, graphs, charts, vendor specifications, and instructional materials to make DCS, SIS, FGS, PLC equipment work properly.   • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by management

Essential Functions

  • Provide assistance to the FLNG Control Systems Specialists with day-to-day Control Systems maintenance activities.

  • Assist in the development of the Management Information System with regards to the Control Systems and other automation systems.

  • Cross Train new or less experienced employees.

  • Accountable for maintaining records and documentation systems for regulatory compliance associated with Fire and Gas systems.

  • Monitor the distributed control systems inventory, access controls, and network protection methods to prevent Cybersecurity threats from affecting the LNG liquefaction process and safety systems.

  • Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Controls System Supervisor.

  • The employee must have the ability to drive a motor vehicle in order to perform the duties required at all FLNG locations.

  • Must participate in the "on call" rotation for holidays and weekends.

Minimum Qualification/Work Experience

Minimum Required:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent
  • 3-5 years' general DCS or similar controls system experience
  • 3-5 years of industrial automation experience in the petrochemical or similar business, utilizing Honeywell, Yokogawa, MSA F&G, or similar systems

Preferred:

  • Associates/Tech. Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Automation Technology.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be able to work independently to identify and solve problems associated with the DCS system and the process systems connecting to it such as F&G devices, Access control devices etc…. The Control Systems Technician will be expected to solve minor problems (e.g. failed F&G Devices, Access Control Devices) without assistance. He will be expected to identify larger problems (e.g. problem with new configuration download) and make an attempt to correct it before contacting others for assistance. This requires an understanding of the basic process as well as a good understanding of the Control Systems hardware and software.

  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills and abilities are essential for this role. Extensive computer skills with the ability to work safely, efficiently and effective with minimal guidance and direction.

  • Good working knowledge of instrument and electrical equipment.

  • Must also have comprehensive experience in the Instrumentation field with a strong knowledge base of field instrumentation, fire & gas detection instruments, vibration switches/transducers, PLC's and SCADA systems.

  • Experience with plant shutdown/turnaround activities including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, material reservations, etc.

  • Must possess Strong PC skills and should be familiar with and able to use and be competent in using MS Word and Excel.

  • Good written/verbal technical communication skill.

  • Good analytical problem solving skills, including root cause failure.

  • Basic First Aid, Permit to work, Incident reporting, Accident Investigation, Emergency Response Plan, Electrical Lockout, SDS, Automation skills, and Strong Planning skills.

  • Leadership/Delegation Skills, Effective communications, MS, Management of budgets

HSE Roles and Responsibilities

Support the policies, efforts, and programs of Freeport LNG Health, Safety and Environmental Management System. Actively participate in the HSE Management System Policies. Ensure that HSE concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility. Implement routine inspections to ensure safe operating conditions.

Working Conditions and Physical Expectations

  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility

  • Able to wear all necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.

  • Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift.

  • Physically able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.

  • Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Ability to distinguish color to perform job functions.

  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

  • Not necessarily protected from weather and temperature changes. Possible exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy weather conditions.

  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds of a pitch level sufficient to cause marked distraction.

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits.

  • May be required to enter confined spaces.

  • May be required to work at elevated heights.
