Summary of Duties:
The Controls System Designer will be responsible for designing and developing DDC systems that enable our clients to monitor and control various building systems, including HVAC, lighting, and security, to optimize energy efficiency and overall building performance.
The incumbent will work a non-standard schedule with some weekend and night work. Job-related stress will range from minimal to high. Job-related contacts can occur with all demographic groups, with the majority of daily contacts being with potential or actual Capstone customers. Representative job duties include:

  • Design DDC control systems that meet the specific requirements of each project, considering factors such as building size, function, and client goals.

  • Develop control algorithms and write programming code for DDC controllers to ensure proper functioning of building systems and integration with various sensors and equipment.

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of DDC systems with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

  • Create detailed technical documentation, including system architecture diagrams, flowcharts, and control sequences, to guide implementation and troubleshooting.

  • Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of DDC systems to ensure they meet performance specifications and client expectations.

  • Identify and resolve issues and malfunctions in DDC systems, diagnosing problems and implementing corrective actions promptly.

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to deliver projects on time and within budget.

  • Provide training and ongoing support to clients and end-users on the operation and maintenance of DDC systems.

  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies related to DDC systems and building automation to continuously improve system designs and performance.
    Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or 2-year associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in designing and programming DDC control systems for commercial or industrial buildings.

  • Proficiency in DDC programming languages and software, such as BACnet, LonWorks, or Niagara Framework.

  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, lighting controls, and energy management.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Project management skills and experience are a plus.
