This is an Electrical Engineer position with Weil-McLain, which is a division of The Marley-Wylain Company.
Provide value-added engineering and support for the development of new products as well as assisting in the maintenance and improvement of existing products. Design, test and develop product and product components following company and industry standards; develop non-routine test and evaluation procedures; assist in supervision of laboratory activities. Integration of control systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Design and develop product component parts, product subassemblies and product complete assemblies according to company and industry standards. Define requirements and specify needs for electronic control hardware and software. Suggest new product ideas and maintain records for potentially patentable ideas.
2.Develop test methods, instrumentation and procedures not covered by recognized Approval Agency requirements or rating codes. Administer and carry out these test programs with team's engineers and lab technicians.
3.Analyze and interpret test data and make product revisions as necessary to comply with safety and performance requirements and standards; and to perform root cause analysis to develop corrective actions.
4.Develop, maintain, and update DFMEAs and associated test plans.
5.Work with drafting personnel on creating and updating the product detailed layout, detailed prints, component specifications, and Bills of Material. Work with Technical Writer to modify or develop technical literature.
6.Work with Product Compliance, Engineering Lab, Plant Manufacturing Eng. Team, Product Managers, Commodity Managers / Supply Chain, and other Product Engineers to enable efficient execution of resolutions to issues. Provide needed technical information/assistance to other departments.
7.Use data from Customer Services, Technical Services, Homeowner Calls, Internal Defects, Warranty and Returns to develop plans for product improvements.
8.Use the Change Request (CR) process effectively and efficiently to manage change aimed toward product improvements. Organize and assign CR work within project team as assigned by Lead Controls Engineer
9.Be thoroughly knowledgeable about and test product in accordance with the Approval Agency of concern, such as Underwriters Laboratories, American Gas Association, AHRI, Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency and American National Standard / Canadian Standard Association.
Keep abreast of state and local code requirements; working with Product Compliance, area sales offices and Product Managers.
Assign and supervise specific tasks within project team in a manner that will allow for efficient completion of project goals. Organize and track progress of specific tasks critical to project completion.
Report progress to Lead Controls Engineer and/or Director of R&D and Control Systems as requested, in addition to the compilation of periodic reports. Report status of active projects, Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders.
Carry out other duties that may be assigned such as product evaluations, cost reductions, manufacturing problem solving, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in Engineering Field - Preferably Electrical or Computer
2+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
HVAC, Appliance, Automotive, or Machine Embedded Control System Design
Electromechanical and Electronic Systems Component Design and/or Application
Low Voltage Power Electronics Engineering
Variable Speed Motor Controls
User Interface Design
Building Automation System (BAS) or Building Management System (BMS) - BACnet and/or Modbus
Product Connectivity (IoT)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Preferred knowledge of:
Electronics CAD packages such as Altium
Software Development and Bug Tracking tools such as Jira
Knowledge of 3D Modeling (SolidWorks, etc.)
PDM/PLM Software for Engineering Change Requests, Change Orders, and Bill of Material Management
LabVIEW or other Data Acquisition Software & Hardware
Knowledge of ISO based quality system
Experience with design-for-manufacturing methods
Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates good organizational and multi-tasking skills. Exceptional Analytical Skills.
Must have strong skills in Microsoft Office applications. Able to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
