Job IntroductionThis position is responsible for all plant machine control systems and documentation, and for working with Engineering on new machine controls and standards.\r

Major ResponsibilitiesUpdate, modify, and continuously improve existing controls systems including robotic programs, ladder logic programs, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interface, hydraulics, and pneumatics distribution and control\r

  • Design and develop new machine controls including robotic, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and vision systems\r

  • Develops and supports Funnel cloud implementation and maintenance\r

  • Coordinate with engineering and maintenance on existing machine control modifications to robotic, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and vision systems\r

  • Create, maintain and keep current all hard copies and electronic data bases: all electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics; panel layouts; PLC, operator display, operator interface, and robot programs; machine power distribution and all related vendor controls component part documentation\r

  • Schedule and complete back ups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on set schedule\r

  • Implement and maintain data collection system from shop floor processing equipment\r

  • Maintain and expand existing plant floor machine control to Ethernet gateways, links and connections\r

  • Maintain all sub machine control data highways\r

  • Maintain and update controls portion of machine standards\r

  • Coordinate with and aid company systems personnel with plant floor Ethernet machine drop routing and Ethernet message traffic control\r

  • Complete correspondence, forms and reports using personal computer and applicable software\r

  • Handle confidential information on a regular basis\r

  • Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example\r

  • Promote and facilitate Open Door process, effective communication and Fair Treatment\r

  • Participate in Continual Improvement activities\r

  • Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies\r

  • Perform other duties as assigned\r

Knowledge and EducationBachelor's degree in a related discipline, i.e. Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, etc., or equivalent experience and education\r

  • Electrical controls engineering background desired\r

  • Experience developing, deploying and supporting Funnel Cloud preferred\r

  • Complete knowledge of and ability to design and use relay logic, ladder logic, pneumatic logic and hydraulic logic\r

  • Complete knowledge of and ability to use RS232, RS422, DH485, Ethernet, DH+, Device Net, Control Net and remote I/O communications protocol\r

  • Understanding of and ability to use java C+, C++ and Visual Basic\r

  • Complete understanding and ability to use Excel, Word, Access, Project, AutoCad, and all related computer software for machine programming, backup and monitoring

Work Experience5+ years of controls experience in a manufacturing environment; stamping and assembly preferred\r

  • Experience with Allen Bradley Processors, Motoman Robots, and Fanuc Robots a plus\r

Work EnvironmentWork environment includes office and manufacturing plant floor \r

  • The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers. The plant floor is characterized by temperature extremes, loud noise and considerable tow motor traffic.\r

  • Flexible hours and overtime as required\r

  • Will travel to domestic and international customer and supplier locations as necessary (up to 25%)\r

Two facilities, located in the Newport News/Williamsburg area of Virginia, produce plastic containers composed of multiple layers of plastic. This position reports to the Director, Operations. The Process Engineer will focus on the Thermoforming process and specifically be responsible for: * Continuous improvement of thermoforming processes in the areas of quality, waste and productivity, utilizing tools such as SPC, statistical analysis, and DOE * Supporting new product development by developing new processes and by collaborating with product development and design engineers on product and tooling design * Serving as the primary interface with equipment and tool/tooling suppliers * Process support of a 24/7 manufacturing operation * Developing standard process conditions and troubleshooting guidelines to support manufacturing associates * Direct leadership of two Continuous Improvement Specialists and a Tooling Coordinator * Evaluation, selection, and startup of new equipment * Train and develop associates to increase organization-wide thermoforming expertise.
