The Controls Engineer job position falls under the Bastian Controls Team. The Controls Engineer is responsible for multiple controls projects and will be capable of all phases of a controls project including: concept and research, sales and sales support, estimating, component selection, network design, panel design, ACAD layout, purchasing, device troubleshooting, PLC programming, HMI tagging, on site installation and debug, and after sales support. The Controls Engineer helps our company meet its mission to help our customers excel in their markets by providing the best material handling system solutions and technology. The Controls Engineer will also help develop new controls processes, lead the integration and development of new controls technologies, assist in solving complex technical problems, and help train and develop the more junior controls engineers.

General Duties:

  • Conduct full scope of controls project services as outlined in the overview above.

  • Estimate, quote, and sell controls projects with emphasis on the Louisville FSE opportunities.

  • Deliver successful controls projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, budget.

  • Communicate with other Bastian team members effectively. Keep receptionist advised of schedule. Check and use voice mail / e-mail diligently. Maintain the team relationship.

  • Attend training and become certified in applicable controls technologies or programs.

  • Communicate strategic information regarding suppliers, customers and competition.

  • Support the Systems Checklist for systems projects.

  • Develop processes to help support our team growth.

  • Solve problems for our team and customers

  • Attend weekly controls and Louisville sales meetings and other scheduled meetings on time.

  • Recruit and critique key suppliers of technology/software.

  • Maintain a consistently positive, enthusiastic attitude.

  • Promote Bastian in all appropriate forums.

  • Train and mentor junior engineers.

  • Any and all job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Engineering. Masters of Engineering (preferred).

  • 5+ years experience, PLC programming experience, panel design experience, hands on and mechanical capabilities, controls project managing experience.

  • Extremely computer literate with MS Office products.

  • AutoCAD experience.

  • Material Handling Integration experience.

He or She supports the Project Manager to deliver the project by providing data, projection and expertise which enable proper decision making across all phases. As a SPCE you are an integral part of our Engineering organization. You have the opportunity to shape an existing team, grow our skills and provide leadership, direction and extensive knowledge in all project controlling activities. You will have the primary responsibility to ensure implementation and management of all project controlling activities from project set-up, through design, construction and commissioning to project close-out across projects in the project portfolio. This role demands strong entrepreneurship, involves customer service mindset, good communication and influencing skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse, cross-functional teams. What You Do Responsibilities include: * Perform project control activities (cost-, schedule- & scope management) in capital projects. * Create and sustain processes, systems, tools & templates for project controls. * Ensures thorough management of cost and schedule, effective change control and the consolidation of cost estimates in projects across all project phases for the entire portfolio. * Lead, manage and develop the community of Engineering Controls experts across the Americas region including interfacing with external parties and professional institutions. * Actively engage and provide professional support to project teams in the areas of Project Controls by sharing best practices. * Establish and train the relevant project controlling processes in alignment with the Diagnostics Project Practices. * Prepare the project portfolio master schedule and establish progress measurement. Responsible for the validity, accuracy, and completeness of all project portfolio controlling information. * Present project portfolio status reports. * Perform project cost and schedule reviews and project controlling audits. * Help project teams define and procure external resources to support project implementation in the area of Project Controls. * Take over people management responsibility as the team grows midterms.
