The Controls Engineer demonstrates leadership in the design, test , project management and maintenance of engine control logic, application software, modeling and hardware interfaces in support of engineering and test activities to assure GE Aviation's TurboFan / TurboJet engines such as the F414 / F404 perform in a safe, efficient, and robust manner.
Execute, with limited guidance from senior engineering team members, the analysis, design, test, and integration activities required to deliver engine controls solutions for GE Aviation TurboFan TurboJet (TFTJ) products
Conduct system simulations and transient analysis; real time modeling with NPSS; classical, multivariable control algorithm design.
Evaluate the functional requirements to achieve the operational requirements of the aircraft engine for fixed wing TurboFan TurbJet (TFTJ) applications
Work with AC manufacturers such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin in defining and negotiating requirements
Work with NAVAIR/Air Force customers as well as FADEC suppliers such as BAE
Define key characteristics of the electronics, fuel, hydraulic systems, sensors, actuators and control logic design required to achieve the control system functional requirements for power management, I/O signal processing, fault detection, accommodation, rotor governor response, thrust response and operations across the flight envelope, including ground and air starting
Use design tools such as Beacon, NPSS, Matlab and Simulink to construct controls system solutions for fixed wing applications
Verify system operation in desktop simulations, hardware-in-the-loop tests (dry rigs and wet rigs), ground engine tests, flight tests
Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks is consistent with engineering policies and procedures while delivering control system certification reports for the US Military, US FAA, European EASA and other national airworthiness agencies
Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments as appropriate
Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
Participate in process standardization and GE Simplification efforts
Augment controls software development learnings by participating in cross controls development programs in the electrical and/or fuel controls spaces
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science from an accredited college or university
A minimum of 5 years experience in an engineering position
Experience leading the planning and execution of complex controls and/or software programs
Knowledge of real time control systems development tools (e.g. DOORS, Beacon, Matlab, Simulink, NPSS, Change & Synergy)
Knowledge and proficiency with the processes for requirements & logic design, simulation and validation at the hardware in the loop environment, engine and flight tests levels
Experience with the DO-178 Certification process
Strong interpersonal and leadership skill
Experience with software systems development in multi-core processor systems
Experience with digital communication protocols such as Mil Std 1553, ARINC429, RS485, and AFDX bus
Knowledge of reliability analysis, FMEAs, fault trees and engine condition monitoring
Familiarity with US exports regulations on technical data exports
Strong teamwork, communication, and documentation skills
