The Controls Engineer designs, implements, and maintains complex control systems and software for production equipment, while training and assisting Controls Technicians.
Primary Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety rules; develop Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
Lead/support Project and Process Engineers, Maintenance & Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors in equipment and process controls design and installation.
Specify and evaluate electrical components and software, including DCS, PLC, HMI, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, and vision sensors.
Design and modify DCS, PLC, and HMI programs to enhance system performance.
Perform high-level troubleshooting and assist others in resolving electrical, mechanical, and process problems.
Maintain and update DCS software, including backups, Windows, and antivirus updates; develop repair and upgrade policies.
Provide technical training to Controls Technicians and other personnel; coordinate new personnel training.
Assist in project planning and budgeting.
Ideal Candidate:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 3 years industrial controls experience with advanced electrical theory knowledge.
Proficiency in PLC, DCS, and HMI programming, system management, and industrial control networks.
Proven ability to lead complex control engineering projects ($50k-$500k+).
Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD) and Microsoft Excel.
