Job Description:

As an Electrical Controls Designer you will perform a variety of electrical design duties for folio sheeting equipment which includes creation of new designs, modification of existing designs, adaptation of previous designs to meet specific customer requirements and modernize the current designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of engineering personnel, create detail designs from schematic diagrams, sketches, specifications, and engineering data for new machines and sections of folio sheeting equipment.

  • Create electrical schematics and panel layouts using CAD tools, select electrical components, evaluate design to verify fit and function with due consideration for manufacturing feasibility, code requirements, cost, and efficient operation.

  • Update and maintain existing electrical symbols library.

  • Make simple calculations of specific electrical components such as fuses, starters, overload relays and conductors; redesign controls or units for changes in operating or design requirements as needed.

  • Prepare design schematic sketches for major machine features, preliminary layouts, detail drawings, bills of material, assembly & installation instructions, and operator & maintenance manuals.

  • Consult with Engineers and suppliers to incorporate and specify pertinent electrical parts; prepare drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams per BW Papersystems standards.

  • Support and collaborate with other departments; assist with manufacturing and procurement problems; maintain supplier interface; assist with and provide guidance on machine testing; assist manufacturing team with interpretation of schematics and other related engineering documentation.

  • May require field service trips to customer locations to offer technical assistance during installation and operation of machinery to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • May lead, coach, or mentor less experienced team members.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical assembly layouts.

  • Working knowledge of fundamental principles of electrical design and various electrical code regulations.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and ADEPT is preferred.

  • Ability to create machine safety system designs and layouts using PLC and other safety components.

  • Working knowledge of electrical motors and variable frequency drives is preferred.

  • Ability to work in customer's facility and manage that relationship.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED with 1-3 years of electrical assembly experience or CAD knowledge required.

OR

  • Candidates nearing graduation and interested in an internship opportunity with a post-graduation full-time opportunity, or recent graduates from technical school or college for entry level designer position will be considered.
