Custom engineered-to-order, their products serve a broad range of markets from food processing to petrochemical applications. Founded in the early 1900's, Vapor Power has grown from a small supplier of heating products for the railroad industry to one of the most regarded suppliers of specialty equipment for steam generation and process heating.

Located in Morristown, TN 45 minutes northeast of Knoxville, Precision Boilers manufactures industry-leading electric and fuel-fired hot water boilers and steam generators plus a wide range of accessories such as deaerators and blowdown tanks. Founded in 1946, Precision Boilers' first product was the sump pump. Over the years the company has continued to grow and add new products including the industry recognized High Voltage Jet (HVJ) Electrode Boiler. As a leading employer in the Morristown area, the company maintains a state-of-the-art facility with a well-trained and stable workforce.

This role will be onsite and requires applicable travel between our two locations and customer sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Design electrical control systems and review existing control systems for all product lines, which includes industrial boilers, electrode, and electric boilers.

  • Prepare schematic wiring diagrams using the latest AutoCAD software.

  • Develop PLC logic programs for use in boilers and burners.

  • Select components to meet the customer specifications and code requirements.

  • Assure compliance of products with applicable (NEC, NFPA, UL, CSA) codes.

  • Check with shop assemblers to confirm that they fabricate units as designed and that the design is practical (controls are accessible and are safely located, etc.).

  • Maintain UL files and records for listed products.

  • Assist customers and service technicians with troubleshooting of control systems and PLC logic. This may occur remotely or on location as necessary.

  • Write technical documents and instructions for the operation of electrical control systems and PLC logic. These include electrical system descriptions and operating instructions to be used in instruction manuals provided to customers.

  • Assist other departments such as marketing in developing new products or options, service by answering inquiries, purchasing by approving alternate sources or deviations, manufacturing by helping to improve process, reduce scrap, and improve productivity.

  • Help develop alternative solutions for lead-lag type applications and explore alternatives to PLCs in simple control systems.

  • Mentor and train field service personnel and less experienced electrical designers and programmers.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical background

  • 2 years' experience with PLC programming (Siemens and Allen-Bradley)

  • 3-5 years electrical engineering experience

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude

  • Ability to read all applicable drawings, including mechanical, electrical and instrumentation.

  • Must have expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Access, etc.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD for creating and editing drawings.

  • Experience with Solid Works a plus.

  • Boiler industry experience a plus

  • A working knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Codes, boilers, heat transfer equipment, or auxiliary boiler room equipment is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • The candidate must be willing to work independently after proper training and be a self-starter.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work Environment:

This position must perform tasks that involve mainly office exposure, sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer. Most of their time, the employee will spend time in the office with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds. Steel toe shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are always required while on the production floor.
