We are seeking a highly competent and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the accounting operations of our organization. As Controller, you will be responsible for supervising the daily functions of the Accounting Department and its team members. Your duties will encompass a wide range of financial activities, including cash disbursement and receipt management, credit card charges posting, wire transfer confirmations, and bank reconciliation approvals.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the month-end and year-end accounting closings for the company and joint ventures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
Supervise the daily operations of the Accounting Department and provide guidance to Accounting Team Members.
Manage daily cash disbursements, ensuring adherence to positive pay requirements.
Monitor daily cash receipts, reviewing incoming ACH payments, wires, and checks to ensure timely deposits.
Handle the monthly posting of charges incurred on the company's credit cards.
Confirm completion of wire transfers
Approve bank reconciliations
Collaborate with auditors during external project or financial statement audits, providing necessary assistance and documentation.
Maintain a receivables listing used by Project Teams and provide support in day-to-day operations.
Verify the release of subcontractor retainage as appropriate.
Review and approve Property tax returns
Evaluate and authorize 1099 forms
Assist the accounts payable team with processing employee expense and mileage reimbursements.
Review and sign lien waivers
Conduct thorough reviews of all checks against applicable pay applications and invoices before distribution.
Maintain a comprehensive list of held checks for reference and follow-up.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction accounting or related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, percentage of completion, and project accounting.
Proficiency in construction accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and make strategic recommendations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., GAAP, AIA billing).
